Hey All
Going to be doing a brake upgrade on the SS..
Just wondering what people think...
Im definatley going to be getting new pads n new rotors..
Should i get new, bigger calipers? Something like VT calipers?
And, the other question is, what kind of rotors?
Slotted or Drilled and Slotted?
Which and why?
Thanks All :)
oo yeah, what are a good set of pads? Im prepared to spend about $120 a set
Something with low dust, no brake squeal, and that can pull the car up on a postage stamp! :)

Nothing
Slotted. Because your not racing around a circuit.. And apparently they wear and/or crack too easily.

As for the rest.. Not sure..

Go for the vt calipers but you have to use custom brake hoses as your originals are too short..I used VT hoses and adapted they way they mount to the body....length is ok only the vt ones ...the VX/Y ones are too short too.
Get DBA slotted only discs(cross drilled are more exy and don't do much for a street car)and you won't believe the difference.
I used qfm pads...they dust a bit but the bloody thing actually stops and I can brake with confidence from any speed.
I did it with both my cars ...my vr and my vp and my brakes are magic

I went slotted and xdrilled DBA rotors on the SS and VR
with Ferodo 'Green' pads..front and rears
both have survived a couple of hi-po driving and track days
at Sandown and the Island....
the SS did 76 laps at Sandown last year and stopped from
oh...bout 210..220ks+ each time at the end of the main straight
and back straight...not a problem.. :D
would I recommend 'em???
yes...and I stayed with the VR type stuff on the VR....
didn't stuff around with a change to VT type brakes....cheaper
and the VR being lighter (than the VX) stopped no worries

hth

cheers

alrighty...
decisions have been made
ordered myself some VT calipers n hoses, a set of DBA slotted rotors
only thing i cant decide on is pads
i had some bendix performax's in my old car n they were pretty good!
a few people have recommended me to get ECB (?) green stuff pads...
Anyone had any expiriences with them?

Today was the day...
Car went down at 8 this morning, i got it back at 3 with:
PBR (VY) twin piston calipers
9C1 Police pads
DBA slotted rotors
and VT Commodore brake lines
drained n flushed the entire system n put some new super dot 4 fluid in
and while it was on the hoist, we drained the diff oil
$52 for 2 litres of diff oil thank u very much!
the result:
one happy camper n a car thats able to stop on a postage stamp
the cost: $300 ;)

Now all you need it the VR 1" cop master cylinder and the VR cop double diaphragm booster.

Me mate did the same upgrade that you did and the above items improve pedal feel no end. With the standard VS parts, the pedal was way too long.

I have it all but the master cylinder ..initially the pedal is longer but after the pads wear in the pedal comes back and is good. The 15/16 cylinder with marginally more travel in both my cars with vt front brakes has better feel I reckon along with the dual diaphram booster.
Standard vs single diaphram booster is plastic....doesn't make sense.
