Default 1997 VS ute info please

do all utes have keyless entry?

that is the button on the key opens and locks the door/s?

just got one with a button but it only turns on the inside light, i assume the motor in the door is stuffed ? or is that all the button does?

    Default Door locking

I thought all late model VS's had central locking, but documentation states that the Low Series BCM fitted controls central locking - except for Series I Utility.

    Does this help?

    Cheers

sorta thanks, guess to be sure remove the trims and have a look inside.

how do the door trims come off on these clipped on? unlike the VT onward with screws around the bottom

and how much are these electric locks if they are fitted but dead ?

Hit the button twice, should open passenger door, at least then you know the remote works

i have a vr sedan, and when i lock all the doors by hand, then go and press the button to unlock, the interior light comes on but the doors dont unlock.

i have to turn the key in the dirvers door to open the one door, then if i press the button it will lock normally, and unlock ALL doors when i do it again.

same thing? also the battery in my key is practically dead. so dont know whether this is normal or not.

If you deadlock the car with the key in the door manually then goto unlock the car by pressing the button it wont unlock but turn the interior light on. Just dont dealock the car if you want to use the remote to unlock it.

Also you can still lock your car manually without deadlocking it, turn the key to the left to lock it but not all the way, like a half turn then turn to vertical. When you deadlock it the key is parrallel.

All VS Series I utes (1995-June 1996) don't have central locking (except Maloo)
VS Series II S Pack utes all have central locking, but not sure about the standard ute.

If theres only 1 button on the keypad then its to turn the light on only, and if its the original keypad then its probably never had central locking. Just put the key in the driver's door and unlock it to find out if it has central locking - the passenger door opens. I would have thought that even the Series II standard ute would have remote central locking. I know the series III standard ute does. Maybe check thats its definately a 1997 and not a series I 1996.

    Default Basic Ute

I think my 97 VS SII exec ute is as un optioned as it gets - power steer, a/c, column auto so no centre console, no power window, no srs, no trip comp or cruise, (no fuel warning?) but it does have remote locking - original two button key.

have to look later, sure its late 1996 first registered in 1997. only has one button so guess no locking..

to get locking would need BCM etc or at least door auctuators. bugger that hassle will just get deadlocking with the new alarm when fitted. needs one with the mags and maloo front.

Thanks Struma, that means that all VSII utes will have remote central locking. 235RWKW It must be a Series I, maybe June 1996. Check out the VIN plate. Speaker covers in door are plastic grooved on SI, metal with small holes on SII, rectangular side indicators SI, oval indicators SII, plus series II badges etc. My old 1995 VS S pack ute (series I) didnt have central locking as standard but was added to it when an aftermarket alarm was put in. You could probably go down the path of getting all the factory gear but the unlock button on the keypad will never disarm an aftermarket alarm so you'd need 2 keypads. Otherwise if you didnt want to get an alarm you could get a new BCM and keyheads to match and maybe just put in a kill switch... lots of options to choose from

If your ute is a 97 model it will be a series II, and if it's a series II it will have a two button remote control key head which works the central locking in two stages. If the lock button only turns the light on, and the unlock button only turns the light off, the door lock is deadlocked (slot horizontal). If the slot is vertical and it only does the above, then you've got a problem with the deadlock switch in the door, the wiring or the BCM.
