whats with the bumper strips?

I have seen some commodores with black strips around them and some with red around them. my car has red front, and black sides and back, because it had the front bumper replaced after a crash. does anyone know why there are different colours? was it an option when they were sold or something like that? my strips will go when my kit goes on, but its just a something i need to know.

pretty sure the strips colour represents the model ...
eg....your's is an exec,so it has black strips...i know alot of the ss's have red strips...calais have chrome..etc..
my equipe has aqua/greenish strips,lol..because the equipe badges are that colour.
