Default Engine stalls and engine light comes on.

Today i was driving through town and pulled up at a stop sign and my car stalled and the engine light come on. i restarted the car and the engine light still appeared, so i drove for a while then pulled over and restarted the car and the light disappeared.
I recently checked my computer for faults and i got that code 12 or whatever one means there is nothing wrong.
This is not the first time this has happened.

More info on the cars needed.. auto/manual..previous issues..

But at a rough guess, it could be the injectors. If it was a faulty sensor (like oil) then a fault code would/should come up where as something to do with the injectors won't bring up an error. How many k's has the cars got? Being a Vs/VR then its more then likely over 100 k's so head down to your local supercheap or whatever and buy some injector cleaner and fill the car up on premium. If you've had your injectors cleaned or new ones installed within the last 20 thou then its another problem altogether...

Something reminds me about a loose main cable to the back of the alternator which makes bad contact (this is a design fault) - check security of this connection. Also battery connections must be good and tight. Or it could be worn brushes in the alternator not pumping enough amps out which the ECU doesn't like.

ok its an auto and done 190,000ks,
I havent replaced/cleaned injectors since ive had it for the last 10,000k's.
Also i have a big sound system which sucks alot of power so i'm thinking maybe the ecu isnt getting enough power like hako said?
anyone else experienced the same problem? how much is injector cleaner or new injectors worth and how hard are they to install?

Did you check your error log after the fault (this wasnt clear in your original post). If the engine light is coming on it should be registering a fault. Make sure you wait till after the code 12 appears 3 times. Any codes will be displayed after that.

unless its the damn Crank angel sensor
could well be your key not keeping contact too

but as kopper said check for a error code first

Ok, so after the code 12 flashes 3 times then any other codes will show up?

Code 41 - Electronic Spark Timing Circuit (EST) Output Circuit Failure

Code 42 - Ignition Bypass Circuit Fault

    What do these mean?

Will have a look in the Gregorys manual tonight to see if they give advice on finding the fault for these particular codes.

The gregorys manual describes tests to check the exact problem for error 41 and 42 on page 117/118. Looks as if fault 41 and 42 are tied in with the DFI module and the ECU.

So fault is either with ECU, DFI module or a connector between them.

Refer to a Gregorys manual or simular for test procedures.
