hey guys, just wondering how you would go about remiving the side decal strips on a VS, like the black ones along the execs and red ones on the SS's? like heat it up and slide like a credit card along or what?
also
What would you use to re attach new ones? like glue or something else? any glue in particular?
will it be hard to re apply new ones along the doors? the front and rear bumpers should be easy yea cause theve got like the grove along them to fit them back in?

any help appreciated!
Nick

Well the side strips you speak of are a BITCH to remove. They are held on by sikaflex, a very strong adhesive. Some people claim that hey have removed the side strips easily, and say that the sikaflex stuck to the actual strip rather than the car. If this is the case for you, you are very lucky, otherwise be prepared to spend hours getting the darn stuff off. Lightly heating it should help a little.

Re attaching it, well you could also use sikaflex, its damn strong stuff. Hardware sells it for about $14 per tube, which is EXPENSIVE as opposed to the other adhesives, but apparently worth the money.

I just dont know how you would go about obtaining the red strip? Some cars look better just de-stripped though.

Good luck :)

well seeing as you'll be re-applying the doors moulds after taking them off there shouldnt be too many dramas (cos it wont really matter if you scratch the paint a bit underneath..cos you wont see it anyway)
to go about removal use a metal applicator with a ever so slight bend at the end (this bend will point away from the body of the car) and run it underneath the mould while pulling it off....go steady, if you rush and just wrench it off , the door skin will ripple and then you'll be up for a new one.
to get rid of any sikaflex still on the car you could do a variety of things...sand it,use a pin stripe remover, razor blade or even just use you hands and try picking it off.
to re-apply the moulds...use wax and grease remover on the area the run double sided tape along the top of the mould and a bead of sikaflex underneath that.
the double sided tape will hold the mould straight while the sikaflex sets....oh,it is a good idea to use sikaflex and not some other type of adhesive because sikaflex can expand and contract will heat and wont become brittle and loose its adhesive qualities from weathering.
p.s. if you get any excess sikaflex on any part of the car remove it immediatley with wax and grease remover before it dries.
