Ey guys, ive just removed most of the side strips on my car, all except the drivers door one, and there is some sikaflex still stuck on the door from the original moulds.
Its not a HUGE amount of it, and im just wondering how i would go about removing it? like is there a special tool or a solution that will disolve it or sumthing? i know when the windscreen gets replaced they use a special tool but that prob wouldnt be to practical around the paint n stuff?
If there is no proper way to get it off, i am prelacing the original black strips with red ones like the SS's, would the new sikaflex ive got stick to the original stuff still on the doors? or not?
Any help appreciated
Nick
Time and patience!! Careful work with a razor blade and metho or eucalyptis oil will remove it.
Be careful, as there is no "easy" way to remove it![]()

ive been told to get sika remover, has anyone used that ir heard of it?
where would i get it from? repco?
got a caramel wheel today from a paint supplier, 2 for $20
works a treat, take some time, but it all comes off.....just a few small caramelly smudges here n there
you dont wanna put a razor blade anywhere near the paintwork...too sketchy.Originally Posted by sixes
pinstripe removers and caramel wheels are the best way to get the bulk of sikaflex off (as already mentioned above)....and some wax and grease remover to totally clear it away.
Ive taken off the Calais side strips from a VL and did it with a razor blade, worked well. Didnt take all the sikaflex off as the car was sold as is by a mate who stripped the car bare
But will keep those ideas in mind for any future removal of the stuff.
Good products to try out![]()

yea ill take some pics tomorrow wizza, you should be able to pick up a caramel wheel a.k.a pin stripe remover from any auto paint supplier, look em up in the yellowpages or sumthin n give em a call to make sure they have em first. just attach it to a drill and away you go, but dont let it get to hot and in one spot too long, cause itll leave a browny tinge and may take a little paint with it to.
Nick
here ya go wizza, couple of pics
and a link to eBay of what the caramel wheel(pin stripe remover)is:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/PIN-STRIPE-RE...QQcmdZViewItem
any car paint supplier should have one
Nick
thnx mate ill give it a go, how does it work? does it roll it off or something??
the caramel wheel kinda like strips it of, just run the drill up and down the strip, not leaving it too long in one spot(cause u might get a caramalish tinge when your finished and it gets pretty hot), and changing the angles aswell to get more of it off......ull figure out what i mean when ya do it
then have some wax n grease remover and some cut n polish handy to clean it all up
metho wouldnt harm the paint or the gloss coating would it???
i have taken off all of the sikaflex but there is a hard silicone sort of stuff which is in a line and it will not come off with metho ecalypt oil or anything it is really hard and its annoying the shit out of me. its only on one door pannel on the other panels this black glue stuck to the strip when i ripped them off any ideas would be great cheers
what do ya use to get the brown dirt stain shit off??? just any old degreaser and cut n polish? .. thinkin off doin mine but they are there 4 a reason so wen sum utha young P plater **** parks nxt to ya n opens his door n smashes ur car it dont leave a mark and it does happen my black strips had marks all over it b4 i bought it
tog et that brown stain off jsut use some cut n ploish and/or wax and grease remover...
as for the silicon stuff (sikaflex) go to an auto paint supplier and buy a caramel wheel (pin stripe remover) cost around $20 for two and go at it with that and a drill.....BUT make sure your paint is 2pac paint and not acrylic, VS's had 2pac from the factory and im pretty sure VR's didnt

I done one door in about 15 mins. and den using euclyptus oil wen it got really thin. gonna do more today. just gotta get some grease remover stuff where can ya buy that ... auto 1?
any auto place should sell that, autobarn repco any of those places will have that

has anyone else encountered the same problem as me in when they pull off the strip there is the sikaflex but also a very hard blue which looks kinda like silicone please please help
caramel wheel.....
the only decent way of doing it short of a respray IMO....
mate, sikaflex will stick to ANYTHING!
mate, please read what we have said, there are two adhesives that hold the strips on, 1. Double sided tape 2. Sikaflex(the plastic silicone stuff that is a bitch to get off)....only way to get it off is by using a caramel wheel(ONLY is you have 2pac paint, NOT acrylic!!)
wonder how much it would cost me to take my vs to a panel shop to rid the side strips and re-paint my rear driverside door, it got pretty badly chaffed up after an altercation with an exploding tire.
-edit-
changed words so they acctually mean what i say [ exploring tire, honestly lmao ]
