I decided that my car needs new spark plug leads.

I also decided that i can't get the old ones off and the new ones on!!!

Does anyone have any tips to make the job easier? I've already taken the engine cover off, but now i'm stuck with a few things -

how do i undo that clip thingy that holds the leads together and away from the exhaust?
how easy is it to swing the alternator out of the way?

thanks

No need to move the alternator!!
To undo the clip for the connector that groups them, just use a flat head screw driver to prise it open.
Use a bit of muscle and you should be able to get the old leads off.

the leads come off the plugs ok, it's just getting them out of the engine bay!!! they are just wrapped around stuff.

i've done what any good male would. i gave up. dad can do it.

nah dude...its pretty simple...I just put a set of top guns in mine...no need to take off the engine cover either...just pull the leads off...undo those black clips that hold them in all together...and feed them through...a bit of patience and you will be right...persistance is the key.

Do one lead at a time. Dont pull off all the leads and try to put them all back on. One mistake and you will damage your engine.

Do one lead / plug at a time, so if you do pull the cap "common" from the lead it matters little, that eliminates the chance of getting the firing order wrong.

Just remember the gap on a commodore is fairly large, don't change it or it will run like a dog, if at all.

Make sure the feeler gauge is an easy sliding fit, never make the gap a tight fit for the feeler gauge.
