VS Executive V6
Hey guys

My car (VS V6) wouldn't start yesterday, got the RAC around.
It turns out the starter motor wiring is faulty.

The starter motor is pretty hard to get to, unless you jack it up and get under it.

My question is - is the wiring easy to fix for the average person? or should I just get a mechanic to do it.

I haven't checked the wiring yet, so I'm not too sure what it all looks like
Any suggestions on how to fix it?
I sorta need the card for Monday :)

Cheers

What part is stuffed? Is it the big positive that actually powers the starter or the some part of the control that pulls in the solenoid including the start relay ,ignition switch and neutral safety switch?
It is common for the ignition switch contacts to stuff up and the car wont start or the keyhead not to be read by the contact.

I'm pretty sure its the "big positive that actually powers the starter"
The RAC guy jiggled around with the wire while I tried starting the car.
Started fine. so yeah

Yup, definately the main wire to power the starter motor
Just started the car then, while someone was jiggling the wire

It comes straight from the battery so its gotta be a loose lug or the male terminal of the starter motor solenoid loose or broken. If its broken or if it has a high resistance the starter motor will have to come out and whatever is wrong fixed.
If the main power wire lug is high resistance or wire broken it will be a matter of relugging making sure you dissconnect the terminal off the battery before doing anything for safety.

There is a smaller wire with a female spade type terminal that comes from the starter relay that is violet/white that is in the same loom as the big positive wire that might have a hight resistance.
Also the big red heavy wire has a lug that has a hole in it that a stud terminal on the starter motor solenoid goes through and is done up by a nut...so you could check the tightness of this terminal on the starter

Did you read the previous post (#6) before you asked your question?
