auto stuck in third

Hi all I have a problem with the auto on my berlina ,when ever I stop at traffic lights the engine fault light comes on and when I take off the transmission is in third and wont change either up or down .no kick down either . If i turn the ignition off then back on again the light goes out and the transmission works normally.any one know whats wrong.

ya box is cactus. needs rebuild

Agree with above i'm afraid. Sounds like rooted solenoids in the trans, but could also be crook PCM if it works after power off and on again. You'll have to take it to a trans specialist in any case.

If it needs rebuild, perhaps an opportunity to get it strengthened and a shift kit put in?

Yeah its on the way out. I had a similar problem to begin with then other things started to fail. So now its getting rebuilt and all the usual goodies are going into it. Motor was going too so thats getting rebuilt at the same time. Cant wait to get it back.

Whats it costing you for all the bits and pieces? ie rebuild with shiftkit, motor rebuild with forged bits (if you're doing that) cam, etc?

Auto is $3500 with shift kit, hi-stall, and other tougher bits. Motor is $5300 with stage 3 cam, chip, porting, ACL pistons, any a few other bits. pacemakers are $570 but i might have to fork out more and get dual cats. I should get it back in less than two weeks
