    Wink Digital Speedo

    hey all,

this might be old news to some ppl but i thought id post it anyway. for all those who hav a speed alert and see them as a waste of dash space, there is another way of using them, if u hold down the "up" and "down" buttons when u turn on ur car the speed alert turns into a digital speedo, however, the only problem is that the light keeps flashing and it gets really annoying(no beeping though). so if u cover the light or disable it, u hav urself a digital speedo. u hav to do this every time u turn on ur car and u can only turn it off by turning off ur car.

i recommend everyone try it just for fun and a laugh

Maybe post this in the how-to section? It has been mentioned a few times but the thread often gets lost. If you post it in the how-to section complete with instructions on how to do it the thread will last a lot longer.

Also you can make the digital speedo permanent by holding all three buttons while car is off, turn key to ACC and keep holding until 100 appears on the speed alert. Once it has, release all the buttons and press set once. Digital speedo will now be permanent and won't have the annoying flashing light. To return it to speed alert, repeat this process, or disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Is there a way of keeping the speed alert a digital spedo full time.. so you turn the key and its automatically on digital spedo ??

The procedure I wrote about above will be permenent until you either change it back or disconnect the battery.

    Let me write it differently.

    1) Turn car off completely (key is as far off as it will go)
    2) Hold all three speed alert buttons (don't let go)
    3) Turn key to on and KEEP holding all three buttons
    4) Keep holding for ages
    5) Keep holding until 100 appears on the display
    6) Let go of all buttons
    7) Press set once.

Digital speedo will now be permanent. You can change it back to speed alert by repeating above process.

I have a Calais with 3lv cluster, my display says fail in the middle screen and a ---O------- on the right screen.

I think they are talking about the separate speed alert (not in the dash cluster) that's on lower models...

    Is nobody reading above properly??

    1) This is ONLY for models with the speed alert module. The level 3 cluster will not work.

    2) You CAN stop the light from blinking if you do exactly as I wrote above. Then it will be permanent and will be digital speedo every time you start the car.

yeah shaggerz what you said about the permanent speedo works on Vs's but not on VR's. On the Vr's once you turn your car off, and start it again it will be back to normal. Also on VR's if you press the two outside buttons while it is on(digital spedo) it will turn it off, so you dont have to pull over and reset it.

    Well I'll be buggered...

I must say I'm very surprised. I would have thought that the speed alert module is the same in VR/VS??

You can get digital speedo on the lvl 3 dash - :

    1) Turn car off completely (key is as far off as it will go)
    2) Hold 'mode' & 'set' (don't let go)
    3) Turn key to on and KEEP holding all both buttons
    4) release buttons

you will get a digital volt guage and digital speedo until you turn the car off - however, no other features of the trip computer will be functional.

i dont know if alot of ppl know this but while your driving with digital speedo, if you push the set button it will record what speed you were doing at the time, if you want to see it later just have the ignition turned on and hit the up arrow and it will display it, to turn it back hit the up arrow again. this can also be done while driving.

Fletch_QLD Thanks heaps for that one!! I will be upgrading to level 3 dash in my VS soon and the digital speedo was one feature I was going to miss sorely!

Now I don't have to go without it

And digital voltmeter is an excellent one also! I am often worried about my stereo flattening the battery when I have it on for a long time when the car is parked... now I can monitor it

yeah i thought they would be the same to shaggerz, but there must be a slight difference in them.
