hey pplz, my vr vr v6 auto is making clunking noises when i back off the accelerator, mate told me it could be the tailshaft or universals, is there a easy way to check them?
Just get under the car after putting it on ramps and taking all safety precautions etc and grip each tailshaft (there are 2) and rotate them. Observe each universal joint whilst you do this and if you see any feeplay at all then the uni is on its way out. This applies to the solid rear end - IRS has a couple of CV joints as well.
mine is doing that to except its not so much when ya back off on the acc. it just does it all the time. n it started and within 5 min it was unbareable n i havnt driven the car again. i was thinkin uni joints to
its worst when you are going down a steep hill...they will clunk nicely
eventually it will break thru, and it is probably chewing out your centre bearing and or pinion with vibration, so its best to get it sorted ASAP
