Hi,
Just got home from driving around and I noticed Red Oil dripping in front of my left front tyre. Opened up the bonnet to discover this red oil type fluid Everywhere. :ranting: . I noticed that it looked like there was a cap/screw missing from a pipe leading from the radiator down to the engine/ tranny. I`m no car expert, so I took some pics to explain myself better. First pic is where it has sprayed everywhere, second pic is a close up of where the oil is coming out of. Any help is great, just hope all i am missing is a screw/cap.

Cheers Ash

If ever you have an oil leak you should be able to find its source by comparing the colours of the oil. ie take your engine oil dipstick out and compare it to the colour of the oil sprayed around your car. If it matches it is an engine oil leak. If not, compare it to the power steering oil/transmission oil/brake fluid.

I would guess that it is power steering. Check the power steering reservoir, you will probably find that it is empty/low and your steering will feel heavier than normal. Could be a busted hose or one that has come loose.

Remember oil will blow back as you drive, so look for the oil sprayed closest to the front of the car and check around that area.

Sorry i cant help you specifically, but this will give you a start for any oil leak.

well, the oil is your trans fluid (dex lll) and that pipe is your high pressure feed to the trans cooler in the radiator.
the pipe you've done a close up on is supposed to look like that, there's nothing missing.
as for why is spewed trans fluid everywhere...i dont know...were you giving the trans a hard time or anything (burnouts,helis..etc.)?
also just check all the clamps on that pipe and make sure that they're tight, may be as simple as a loose clamp on a high pressure line...instant mess.

Hey mate. I`m hoping it is only a lose connection/clamp. I`m going to buy new hoses for it tomorrow, so we`ll see what happens. I do have a stage 2 shift kit, and some times give it a bit of stick. I never do burnouts, skids in the car. I`m hoping its only something simple, hoses/lose connections.

Cheers Ash

I have a 'couple'
There was a recall for that years ago. The hoses into the radiator cooler tank were only single clamped and the recall was to change them to double clamps. Best thing to do is change the clamps and hoses (upper and lower), not too difficult a job, I did them on my VR, when it burst a hose, in less than 30 mins.

did you put in another trans cooler when you did the shift kit?
it may be that your trans temps have been gettin too high and have been putting alot of pressure on your hoses and clamps that run to and from the trans cooler in the radiator.
it is recommended that an extra cooler be installed when your trans is shift kitted, there's more heat created from the harder shifts.

I got my shift kit done at an Autotransmission specialist. Another trans cooler, thats something I never thought, or the mechanic mentioned when I got it done. I`m off tomorrow to buy some new hoses and some new clamps. Anyone know what type of hoses and clamps to buy?

i just had a look at my vs, and that hose has a cap on it. what is the difference between the two models for them to put a cap on?

I think you will find that that is part of the airconditioning, I'm sure my VR has a cap also.

Thats correct, it is the AC pipe and where the cap should be is used for re-gassing so I would not worry bout it.
If you go to a good spare parts place and tell them that you want the upper and lower trans cooling hoses they will know what you need as this is a common fix for VR's an VS's.

Cheers:yeah:
