hey guys..got a leaking power steering rack and was wondering if its possible just to replace the seals rather than the whole rack..im assuming its gonna be costly..i would prolly go re-condition if i have to but i would rather just change the seals if possible..anyone have any idea on cost for the above??
cheers
Unfortunately you can't just replace the seals. A change over rack is $225-00 plus fitting.Originally Posted by muney
Whereabouts are you? If you contact a mechanic he should be able to tell you how much it would cost to put in.

mr-spares is incorrect...
if you want to take a day or so to do it yourself, you can replace all the seals, rings, and boots. the seals are fairly cheap ($30 or less) the reason its so expensive to swap it for a reco is the time it takes to do it.
There is a DIY for dummies write-up here for reco-ing the rack but you must be very careful as with replacing all seals not to scrape the sides when taking them out/in or it will leak

If the Commodore gets exported and sold in the US with a Chevrolet badge, I wonder if the owners will replace that badge with a Holden one? We could start up an exchange program.
