hello all please excuse me if my questions are simple but i have a son that has just bought a vr commodore and it has some issues that i would appreciate some input with.
1/ its an auto and when you are in park and select a gear say reverse there is a definate clunk that almost moves the car when it engages. what would cause this and is it a major drama toi sort it out.

2/ the steering whel has an airbag and he is wanting to take it off to align the steering wheel. it has had an alignment but the wheel is still out to a fair degree. can you take it off and replace it on the spline to straighten it up?

sorry if these are inane questions but i have little knowledge of the model thanks for any help

1) box is slipping. suggest rebuild when wallet's a little fatter

2) not certain as I don't have an airbag, but I'm pretty sure you can, same as a non bag wheel

is there anything that i can do to lessen the problem other than a rebuild. i just drove it for over an hour and it didnt seem to be as noticeable as it did to me before.

auto-box's aren't all that simple, so maybe take it to an auto specialist? They would know what to do obviously. They also have alot of experience with that particular auto... unfortunately i found out the hard way.

just make sure to disconnect the battery when taking off the steering wheel, an airbag going off can cause serious injury, especially if your holding say a screwdriver between yourself and the airbag.

other than that i dont think its too hard, ive only done newer model commodores, but theres about 4 screws behind the steering wheel to take out for centre piece on the vr's, after that just have a look around to see what else is holding it on.
