I've got the Haynes manual, but it is a complete piece of ****, totally useless! It gives a picture of where the sensor is, but the engine of whichever model they've used (the manual covers VN-VS) is nothing like what's under the bonnet of my standard '94 VR Exec.

So, could someone PLEASE tell me where to find the ECT sensor on my car? If you could post a pic showing me, that would be brilliant! I just don't want to go an accidentally pull out the wrong thing, and given that the two supposedly authoritative sources have been anything but, I'd really like to be sure I've identified the right part first. Thanks.

My manual says the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor is located at the front of the engine positioned in the thermostat housing...there are 2 of them - one is called "coolant sensor unit" (RH) and the other "coolant temperature sender unit"(LH). I'd guess the latter one is for the temperature guage and the former for the ECU.

Attached is a diagram for a VS V6. Should be in the same place for your VR.

Pull the alternator out and both sensors are there. Mine is VR II.

thanks guys. I've only just been able to check back, due to moving house, but appreciate the replies. :)
