hey guys alot of you seem to face your subs into the car were as my 3*12inch pioneers face toward the boot, wats the best way??? i been told a zillion storys just wanted to know wat you guys think???

depends on if you want volume(amount of bass you can hear) or depth (amount of bass you can feel), i cant remember which way is which but i know it does make a difference, not a massive one, but there is a difference.

I only do it so when i have sh!t in the boot i dont punch a hole in the sub, also then my amp is out in the open and doesnt over heat but yeah u can feel it better when it faces the cabin!! The ladies love it.

Can i see some pics of a VR/VS sub setup in the boot
Yeah facing into the cabin is alot better for clarity wise and the seats rumble real nice, the only problem with running higher powered subs is boot rattle anyone managed to get rid of it at all? its shocking in my vr sedan
yer ive always wondered that too...
one thought that i did have was to maybe place a layer of rubber (only the size of the numberplate) between the numberplate and the boot to absorb the rattle between them...but not sure how to solve the rattle of the boot door...is anyone has any innovations please share =)
Its called sound deadener you apply it to the cars body pannels and it adds weight to it and reduces rattles. I have NO rattles what so ever with my 750rms Kicker its has been treated to a few layers of sound deading.
Dynamat are excellent

Jaycar also sell a similar product but ive heard stories about it peeling off after time. Stinger also make aswell.
Cheers
yup what VSRUMBLE said. Use some sound deadening material. Two leading brands are Dynamat and Stinger "Road-Kill". For your number plate you can also add some rubber washers which is meant to prevent/reduce rattles. another method i've heard is to locate where the rattles are one by one, then with a chisel pry apart slightly the two sheets of metal it's being produced from and spray a little bit of expander foam along the joins in there. I'm yet to sound deaden my car, but once my uni exams are out of the way in a few days the front doors will be being deadened with a bulk pack of Dynamat i have waiting. Subs and monoblock on there way, so no sound deadening has been done in the boot yet. Hope this helps... Cheers, Bryce.
another option for sound deadener that might be a bit cheaper is head to bunnings or any hardware store and go to the roofing section, should be able to find something very similar and ive been told its about half the price aswell
I have tried a few different ways, i found that ported boxes with subs facing away work well in wagons etc. However in a sedan where the subs are generally in a different compartment from that which the listening position is. ie. the boot, that sealed boxes facing into the cabin, preferably through the centre fold down seat, gives you the clearest base with least amount of volume loss due to vibrations. I even tried to get the best of both worlds by facing my subs through the seat and porting it up through the parcel shelf. This was a disaster as I got more vibration than bass, my subs sounded 'muddy' with next to no definition between frequencies and it had the most hidious ressonance frequancy you have ever heard! My current set up is a sealed box with 2 type R 12's recieving 1000wRMS set up in a "V" configuration and shooting straight through fold down seat. Apperently the key here is to have the subs angled at 90 degrees to each other to maximise constructrive interfernce before the sound get sent to your ears. Like when you are at a concert , the base sounds best if you create an equalateral triangle between you, the left stack and the right stack of speakers, only this is a much smaller scale. This is by far the best set up as far as clarity and punch goes, i have however lost a little bit of SPL, but i will gladly trade that for the difference in clarity any day. It has still managed to dislodge the centre rearview from the windscreen so i guesse the SPL is still adequate. Plus i think the subs look alot better being mounted at 90 to each other rather than just flat through the seat. I am not at home so i can't post any pics right now, but i will get some up for ya during the week.Originally Posted by LisnM8
Yeah i am running 2x12's@1000wRMS with no boot rattle in a vs. I think the key is in the "v" box setup.Originally Posted by H.I.M666
I have not installed any sound deadening in the boot, only the doors. I have had a few different boxes, and this is the only one that hasn't rattled. You need to find an experienced installer. If you are on the Gold Coast, do not ever waste your money at Gold Coast Car Sound. These guys are by far the dodgiest people i have ever dealt with! They actually blew 2 amps and a head unit, all brand new, because they didn't scratch paint away for the earth on the amps so the first time i turned it up the amps had no where to earth and earthed back through the RCA's to the head deck. It wasn't until this happened twice that i had an independant technition look at it and he located the fault. I took his report to them in writing and showed them and they still refused to take any resposibility. They told me if i wanted to be re-imbersed i would have to take them to court. They were also responsible for the really bad sub box mentioned previously. Alot of my friends have horror storie with them as well. BEWARE
