I think my thermostat maybe gone. But since ive had my car it never heats up to more than 1/8th temp.
My mechanic has told me it should heat up to over 1/4 temp for normal driving.
A few VT/VX's ive been in heat up to almost half temp.
Also does a stuffed thermostat effect fuel economy? because at the moment i get poor economy, about 300km/tank

Try replacing your temperature gauge sender, temp sensor for the ECU and replace your thermostat and see how you go. A buggered thermostat will affect economy, as the engine will run cooler, however if the temperature sensor for the ECU is stuffed, this will have a bigger effect on your economy, as your ECU thinks the engine is cold, and puts more fuel in, making it run rich.

a simple test will reveal if ya theromstat is good/bad, remove thermostat from housing and place in a clear glass container, boil the kettle and pour into bowl , you should see the thernostat open, if not its f#cked, check the numbers stamped on the flat surface, that will tell you the heat range

Not sure on the temp sensor, but the thermostat is about 20-30 dollars.

Easiest test for a thermostat is whether your heater is blowing hot and not warm air. Another method is to start your engine when cold and feel the top of the radiator around where the radiator top hose enters the header tank. The engine should take about 5 mins to warm up sufficiently to allow water past the thermostat (about 90 deg C) - the place where your hand is will suddenly feel hot as the hot water is released into the radiator. If it gradually gets warm after about 1 min (from start) then the thermostat is jammed open and will need replacing. Don't get your hand anywhere near the electric fan which may start up once the engine heats. Good Luck.

Thermostat is about $12 from Holden
Temperature Sensor for the ECU is about $25 from Holden I think
Temperature Sender (for the dash gauge) I'm not sure about, but I think its around $15 or thereabouts.
