im interested in the fuel consuption people are getting for vr 3.8l v6.

im using 14.4 l per 100km which equates to 471 km,s for a 68 litre tank.
is this good,bad or average.
this figure is for city driving and being light on the throttle.

stop and go, thats not half bad

on a full tank, open road my car would only pull ~400km before it beeps and thats being light in the throttle

though admitably i think my tranny needs reconditioning to make it engage better [ driving my car feels like a slipping clutch ] plus im sure my "sunday" exhaust [ read, holy ] isnt helping either.

471k's for city driving is good imo, i get around 320-350 full tank in city driving because i have a problem with taking off, always take off too quick(never over speed limit), but on freeway i drove to taree from syd (300km or so)using onli just under quarter of tank, and thats with full car load sitting at(most of the time) 100km/h @ 1750rpm. the v6 is pretty economical, what kills them is the start and stop of traffic.

Same here. I'm getting about 15l/100km in stop-start on an inner-city-suburbs 15km each-way trip (so a lot of that is when the engine is still in the cold cycle) & about 8-9l/100 km on the freeway. Momentum is the big thing with fuel economy in these - they are pretty heavy & accelerating all the time is the fuel drinker.

I had a VK EFI that used at least 30-50% more fuel than my VR so I'm not complaining.

400 - 600, + or - 50 depending on town or highway, split the difference, 500 is cool for a combination.

As shown many times, a bad driving style will add 1/3 extra fuel use, so it's easy from the lights, foot off the gas for a light green for a while, smooth braking, 95 and NOT 105, smooth driving means like as if you have a boiling hot full drink in your lap, don't spill it !

Paid chauffers are taught to drive like smoothly so the big BOSS don't spill his 12 year old scotch, it's not hard.
