I just bought a conversion kit for my VR Auto which included, T5 Manual, flywheel. clutch, clutch cable, pedal box, tailshaft and the surrounds.... but basically missing the computer and wiring harness... and I am just wondering if anyone knows any way around to keep the auto pcm or if they know of anyone with a VR Manual computer plus wiring harness because I am getting desperate.... idling high and it still trying to go coming back down the gears is starting to piss me off and also having to trick the pcm into thinking it's in park or neutral to start it is pissing me off to and the no speedo is going to get me a ticket soon enough.... i'm losing my mind..... can anyone help...
cheers
I think this has been covered before on this forum, or maybe on the forums at www.vncommodore.com - i think the trick with the starting is there is a switch on the tbar? you have to short it out. So the computer thinks its in park or something. Maybe im wrong? lol

I think it was regarding VS conversions, my understanding of which is that the ECU for auto and manual VS 3.8's are the same. The VR however im sure is different, but the details im not sure about.

The auto & manual VR & VSs run totally different speed sensors that aren't compatible with the other type of computer.
The T-bar mod only does the reverse lights & inhibitor switch.
There is an easy way, i can do a modified memcal (chip) for this conversion that allows the use of the auto pcm & wiring harness with a manual trans.
available anytime cost $180 changeover, pm me for details.

So where did you buy the kit? how much?
And why didnt they tell you about the loom / ecu implications?
they said they would look for one..... but I didn't realise it would be so damn hard.... I started ringing around and couldn't find anything at all...
my only option in the end was to give chiptorque a call and see what they could do.... they where going to clear the auto codes or something and put a HP2 chip in aswell for $570.... was going to do that this weekend... but now that rob has said this I am trying to get ahold of him asap....
and the conversion cost me $1100... for the box, starter, flywheel, clutch kit, clutch cable, crossmember, gearstick and all the rubber surrounds and the plastic surround....... uhm... can't think of anything else...
$200 for the new clutch kit.
$33 for the machining of the flywheel.
carton of rum & cola for my girlfriend's dad letting me use his mechanic shop and the oil and shit I used.
and now this memcal for $180...
so 1513 all up
if you read this rob, please get ahold of me asap.... I left you an e-mail and private message...
Heh, i'm a bit desperate![]()
Hows it going??? Did u try the memcal trip
How are the ol thrust bearings holding up? no bang bang tinkle tinkle??
C'mon ppl!!
This guy has converted from an Auto to a Manual for 500 bucks less than reco Auto swapover!
I would thought this thread would have a million posts in it by now!
Jobs done .... im sure whisky will post soon
Rob
Hey there buddy
I converted my VR V6 around 2 months ago.. If you need a hand with anything just let me know..
As for computers you can use your auto computer.. Just change the memcal.. Dont listen to any bullshit given to you buy mechanics and all.. Holmart can program one for 180 bucks or so and plus its a HSV chip.. As for wiring Im pretty sure theres ways around it to use auto wiring but heaps of f**king around... But I know it can be done coz it was done on mine..
Cheers
P.S dont buy your computer and loom for more then 100-150 each.. Wreckers rip you off!!!
cheers,
Update...
Doctor Bob has sent me the chip and it is all in.... everything is in and running fine... he did a performance memcal as well for the conversion for my bolt ons... and it runs like a dream... recommend him to anyone.... shit.. that reminds me, better send back the old chip today for him... heh...
All that is left to do is the wiring and i'm not looking forward.... if anyone has a diagram for the speedo and so on then that would be awesome..... uhm... what else... reverse light wiring will need to be done as the switch is where the gearstick is... (the old auto uses the t-bar sensor for the reverse lights) will need to come down to the box...... and apart from that... theres nothing else really...... goes like a dream and hauls ass..
But yeah... if anyone can assist with the wiring then that would be great....
Did it actually come as a kit or did u have to hunt around and source all the bits yourself?
Hey whiskey
I own a VS was wondering where you found your kit and if it would fit the VS?
I am doing a VR auto to manaul conversion at the moment and so far minus the price of a new chip it has only cost me $350. That was the price of a new lightened flywheel.
Three Questions:
1. Will the kit you bought fit a VP SII?
2. If yes to 1., where did you get this kit?.....ie contact ph...etc... If no...do you know where i can get one???
3. Was there any EPA or Diff problems that you had?
Other than that....good work on getting rid of another auto!!!
aZk.
hey rob just wondering i have a vr berlina i converted to a manual i got a chip that is a performance chip and it turned auto codes off but i still have no speed sensor signal any way to help me my speedo works but without signal runnin really rich and wants to stall when i stop at lights cheers
its a t5 box i put in it.
Quick question Dr Bob, (or anyone who might be able to help)
I was wondering if there is a difference between a performance chip for a stock VR and a performance chip for an engine with modifications. I recently converted my car from auto to T5 manual and am still using the auto harness and running in limp mode with no speedo but am waiting on an (swearword) Ebay ECU which connects to the auto harness and claims to have a performance tune which will give me a 17 Kw increase in power. This is the link Holden Commodore VR auto ECU converted to T5 + wiring (eBay item 270661391151 end time 19-Nov-10 20:42:30 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats As my car has extractors, hi flow cat, 2 1/2 inch cat back, cold air induction with high flow panel ect, will I need to possibly purchace another chip to cope with the extra mods that I have done? Also 1 more question (not tryin to be a pain in the back side and Im sure your a busy man) I have a complete turbo kit for my car ready to bolt on in 6 months when I am off my P's, Will I need to get an upgraded chip or something like that when the time comes to boost it, or get the ECU re-programed? Forgive me for sounding like a noob, as I am a "google" mechanicThanks in advance for any advice you might have for me.
Thanks for the info mateSo whos going to Revfest this year ? Hunter Revfest I rekon its gonna be off tap
