Assuming its the temp. sensor which send info to ecm; just did mine recently:

1. disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. take the drivebelt off.
3. drain the radiator water till no water comes from the water pump.
4. remove the alternator retaining bolt (located next to the belt tensioner pulley), and loosen the pivot bolt and raise the alternator up.
5. disconnect the connector (there are two sensors there, its the right one)
6. unscrew the sensor and replace with new one (note: put some of that white tape, forgot name - around the thread of the sensor).
7. do the reverse above, and fill radiator with water and your sweet.

:)

holdens in SA quoted me $100ish for the temp SENSOR, the SENDER is the cheap part (this is the one that tells temp gauge what to show)

Mid last year I was quoted $25 for a genuine delphi temperature sensor. The next week when I went to buy it they wanted $100 - go figure.

I purchased two identical Bosch coolant temperature sensors a few weeks ago. The one from Repco was $22 and from Holden was $16.
