    Default auto oil question.

Just yesterday I had the transmission in my VS acclaim serviced(113000Kms).
The mechanic told me that they found alot of friction material in the filter and that the box only has 6-12 months of life left.

Anyways when reading the service receipt it says that the oil was replaced with "dextron oil" Which is fair enough as it should only be filled with dextron3 oil, But the "stock code" for the oil is listed as "DEX2".

So my question is; is there a "Dextron2" oil that he may have refilled it with, instead of Dextron3 that may cause problems? hence me coming back for a $1900 reco box (which he explained as one of my two only options, should it start to play up), other option was 2nd hand box for around $1200.

I don't by any means trust this guy so I just want to check whether or not I should be worried that he may be sabotaging my box for his business!

    thanks guys.

it states for you to use dexron II, but ive spoken to a number of trans specialists and my tafe instructor (an ex trans specialist) and they all said, for the electronically controlled transmissions vr vs etc (not sure about vn vp) you use dexron III, and for the older model trans, u use dex II ie vk, vl etc
apparently its the same stuff, apart from the fact that dex III has a higher boiling point (i think)
if u wanna use dexon II, i think its now called transmax m or something like that

I just rechecked the car manual, It says use ONLY dexronIII.

I just want to check that it was serviced properly, hopefully I was just billed incorrectly . I'll go back and find out tomorrow

Dexron II spec oil is covered by the Dexron III spec oil. If a Dexron II oil is specified, u can use Dexron III oilm but not vice versa

    Yeah..use Dex III,But my question???
friction material in the filter ???, Did he cut the filter open?? The bottom of the pan has a Magnet & grease in it to catch the tiny particles, when I installed my shift kit (125000k) I had a very small amount of particles, My tranny expurt said this was normal.

The main thing that kills trannys is heat, Do you have a cooler on it??

The thing to remember is that when they "change the oil", they do not change "all" the oil as at least 50% remains in the converter, lines and cooler......though for quite a few more $$$ you can get a total flush and change.
The life of an auto transmission is directly related to the proximity of the right foot to the metal.
