I have a Vr Calais not that it matters but im wondering how 2 get the auto big fat knob off so i can take that cover off and do sumthing wqith it any suggestions or easy ways 2 get it off without breaking it or ###ing it up pleese help
Search....
theres a trick to it
pull up, but not overly hard, and just keep pressure on
then gently lift it forawrd from the back, like you are popping a lid on a beer bottle with a bottle opener
might need a bit of wiggling also, but once youve got the technique theyre easy
is it easy 2 put back on
ummm im not sure about VR but with my brothers VT we had to pull the whole centre console apart.
y wood u do that just 2 get the gear knob off
is there anything that might screw up or break if i take it off is there anything i need 2 detach underneath the actual shifter itself
No - it's just a snug fitting rubber knob forced on a steel rod - there are a couple of small barbs on the top of the stick to help hold it on, but there is nothing you can do about that.Originally Posted by Joey_18
The one thing to be aware of, is if you put it on and remove it too many times it may start to get a bit loose. By that I mean like I had mine on and off like 20 times while I fiddled around putting a cup holder in and at the end of that it was a little loose so I wedged a piece of cardboard in to tighten it up.
to take that cover off you don't need to take the gear knob off. turn the cover sideways and lift over it.
yeh i need 2 take it off cos im putting wood grain insert over that panel and it wont fit over that big knob
hye mate why dont u do what i did and get a vs calais series 2 gear shift console and spray it with vynl paint, cum up real nice and colour matched. Are u using that stick on woodgrain?
mine is really stiff pics on a how to would be nice guys.
Then take the shifter surround out of the car to fit it.Originally Posted by Joey_18

The shifter surround comes out of the car extremely easily without removing the gear knob...
Damn, I used to pull mine on and off in 5 seconds flat with the auto...
I now do it in around 2 seconds with the manual...
you dont need to take the console out to change the knob
putting it back on is just a press fit, then get a towel and fold it over a few times, hold it on top of the shifter and tap it with the side of a hammer just to make sure it is firmly on
i got the knob off thanx guys is the series 2 vs shifter any siff and will it fit on a vr most likely it wood i guess
most vs series 2 shifter are leather, im looking at getting one soon, about 45 buks from wreckers, will definetly fit ur vr
K sweet do u have any pics of them
i want a woodgrain one do the sell em at the wreckers ????
naa dont have pics, but its basically the same just covered in a grey leather, same as ur seats. I dont think holden made woodgrain gearknobs for vr/vs, ssv (www.ssv.com.au) sell the full stick on woodgrain kit including gear knob if u want to check them out.
thanx il have a look
the leather shifter knobs are $55 new from holden, so i wouldnt pay $45 for an old one at a wrecker
they are a HSV item
my mate is an aswsome airbrusher and i was thinkin about getting him 2 air brush the handle 2 look like the back of a cobra as it already has the simalar shapebut i dont no if i should go with that or keep goin with my luxry sort of look
hey jamie_87 have u ordered anything from them guys there in syd and im in melb how do u pay by credit card or wat???
no mate never bought from them, yeh i think u can use credit cards, but not sure on the shipping to melb. i guess ud have to ring/email them and find out.
Haloeight Up here in syd its hard to get the leather gear knobs from holden/hsv as the dealers ive been too dont wanna sell it without the actual shifter which goes all up for 400 buks, they wont sell it separetly. thats why im optioning for either the wreckers, or wait till i get my steering wheel re-done and get the shifter and handbrake done at the same time.
