Battery light still comes on occasionally i.e. nothing changed after putting in a new set of (V8) alternator brushes last weekend. Time for a new regulator and how much are they or could the battery be rooted ?
Mmmmm V8
could be a few things - check the battery with a multi meter, with car running, check volts, should be around 12.2-14.4 I think, and with car switched off, should read no lower than 10
could be the voltage regulator - prety sure it won't run at all if the reg's stuffed
could also be the diode - if the diode's stuffed, a brand new battery can go dead overnight.
other than that, I could only suggest poor/old wiring

Usually the regulator is replaced when the brushes are replaced as they are cheaper that way ($40-50) and they both can cause the battery light to come on. At idle with no accessories or lights on you should be reading at least 13.5V and with the engine switched off after sitting for an hour or two or overnight it should not read below 12.6V.
water in battery topped up? my battery light came on a while back, battery was pretty low, topped it up, took it down and back up the freeway, all good.

Thanks for the replies. I ended up getting a new reg set for $45 from my local Holden dealer. I replaced it tonight without taking the alternator out in around 15-20 minutes (). Hopefully that's it for now and the bat light stays off. Cheers !

got a brand new battery.600cca and was happy until driving down the road the battery light came on again.
went to holden wreckers and bought brand new voltage regulator .
disconnect battery and replace.2 screws on back of alternator.
turned car back on and the voltage was back at normal on battery
and battery light on dash went off.so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9 out of 10 alternator problems are the voltage regulator !
thats what people have been saying.
light is still off since my last post, but since then about a month back the battery died at the local petrol station with no real prior symptoms other than it was getting hard to start on the odd cold morning. I drove in, filled up tank, paid the man, tried to start car, zip, dead and naffed. Lucky petrol station as they got $40 for juice and $135 for a new battery !
