i'm 17, and frankly am sick and tired of being classed as a hoon just cause of my age, i drive a VR, and people think that just because i drive a commodore that i am out every weekend doing burnouts. believe it or not i cop sh*t from my friends for driving the right way, i guess thats just peer pressure for you.
I've had a VR for a few months now, she's really good, done about 170 000km, and one of the tidiest ones i've seen around. i have a bit of money to spend, and am just wondering what are the best modifications to do to her. I want good power for my money, i also have a few questions
if i wanted to increase power, but keep as much the same noise as a standard VR (really quiet) what would i do? extractors and 2.5 inch from cat back?
and are performance chips worth the price?
any tips and advice would be fantastic and can you also put in some rough prices for everything,
is it a v6 buddy ? if so a powerchip wont really do much as the ecoctecs (if thats what it is a pretty much tuned as good as they can get) modifications for power gain, I'll be frank with you. how much money do u want to spendbecause thats about the limitation(or limitationless) of it how much you have stored in that piggy bank derives how much i do to ur car (or not) you can do a front header/cat back for cheap power. but if u wanna get serious, blueprinting changing internals to racing stuff /supercharging is the sorta stuff ur lookign for if you wanna get "truck pulling power stuff"
let us know what your intentions are and we should be able to help you![]()

If its a VR, then it wouldnt be an Ecotec...
--1995 VS Commodore Executive-- Stock as a rock! lol.<br>
mate, being a 17 year old driving any sort of car will throw you into the stereotype of a hoon... its just the way things are...
If your not a hoon why do you wanna make it go fasterNah I know what ya mean champ, Gotta be prepared for alot of looks and some attention from the ######## cops.. Whom I have no respect for at the moment, after hearing a story about a girl friend of mine.
Doing a burnout in a VR? LOL!
Even when you do get em going, its only spinnging one wheel... which is pretty embarassing.
So its got 170 thou on the clock?
If i was you i would save your pennies for the power steering / transmission rebuilds you have around the corner.
Takes it from me, l own a VS with only 108 thou on the dial and problems can arise. For me that included replacing the powersteering pump, solanoid issues (subs used to drain the hell out of my battery) and just general tires and servicing costs are quite expensive, then theres insurance too.
I've done the following and have noticed an improvement, its still not much of a contender though, for that , would have to get a manual tranny installed l think.
My advice on performance though, l'd get the exhuast done, just a set of extractors and 2 1/2 should be ok, or even get a hi-flo cat, with that your looking at around $700 and up.
Next would be a CAI, l suggest a V6 supersharged as they have a bigger mouth then the others, thats $90 from holden, not fitted ofcourse. Replace the airfilter while your at it too, to a K&N pannel which costs around $70.
Then, if its auto which l assume it is, you can get a B&M Shiftplus Electronic Shift Improver which you will notice a difference in performance. That'll cost you arounnd $60, delivered, but uninstalled.
After that, theres not mush else you can do, well, on my wage anyway since l'm still at school.
I'm more focused on the looks and sound at the moment anyway, since an auto VS V6 isn't really anything special as performance goes.
So far l've purchased taillights, clubby interior and got the entire speaker system replaced.
