Default Breather Cap on VR-VS 3.8lt???

    Hey guys,
I was just wondering, seen it on a few 5ltr's, a breather cap...
    Firstly, what does it do??
Second, what does it go over??
Thirdly, would it fit on an EcoTec and would it be seen??

Anyone with a pic of one on an EcoTec or even a Buick 3.8??

    Cheers

Yeah, I am interested in this as well.. That was the exact one i was looking at as it was the only one to fit the large oil cap hole. I Was Just at the auto store as my mate just got a new one on his HZ 5lt.

What im worried about is that do these motors need a tight seal, eg oil cap??

When i have the cap on the motor makes a different noise to when i take the cap off?

Also i was told over time some oil could seep through, and that Johnny Law would not loo kindly at them..

I only want it as a Wank Spec item as its shiney alloy, will go good with the strut brace and colour coded engine bay!!

wont fit directly onto a stock v6 rocker cover, but will fit on the finned alloy ones, as i have one on mine, i got the "holden" finned covers.

they are there to allow crankcase fumes and such to vent, but the v6 uses a setup that makes it vent back into the intake system, for emissions laws. really isnt needed on a v6, but if you've got the finned rocker covers, go for it, or buy a second oilcap and cut a hole and mount one to that.

and yes, mr plod wont like it if they really want to sting you.

you can get "V6" ones from kilkenny, same thing as mine, just with v6 on em instead of holden. not sure on prices, they are available for the ecotec, just go into autobarn, maybe bursons or repco and ask about them

they look pretty sweet...do the stock rocker covers have a larger hole where the cap goes?

So, does this mean that the motor will run perfectly fine with a breather cap (ECOTEC V6)???????

As they sell ones the fit around the hole on the rocker covers so this is not an issue. I just don't want to drive around with a motor underperforming becuase of the breather if the rockers are meant to be under pressure???

    Thanks

mines been running fine, only problem ive had was the other day mum was driving the car, the cap came loose, and a bit of oil splashed onto the cover and burnt, and mum smelt it in the car and got worried.

on the pre ecotec motors, theres a tube that goes to the throttlebody before the butterfly, from the intake manifold on s2 and rocker cover on s1, thats effectively a breather cap, but it goes to the intake so no gasses escape into the atmosphere for emissions.

I saw the one for an ecotec at autobarhn. But instead of sitting in the oil filler hole it is clamped to the filler hole the stands up a bit from the rocker cover.. Take in your oil cap and it should fit inside the breather filter.

But at $34 I didn't wan't to risk putting one on then the car running shit house!

Let us know how you go?

It looks like the one you have in the photo, same colour and all. Prob is the same one!

The issue is though, how will the ecotec go long term with one!!
