Question clutch so called "return spring"

Has anyone ever replaced their clutch pedal return spring?
Most I've seen are broken anyway.
Mine was broken and , because the throwout bearing is supposed to run constantly against the fingers of the pressure plate was giving a bit of a squeal when the pedal wasn't depressed and was hard to adjust clutch.
If you follow the book you really have to crank the spring up to put it on right...seems too tight.
Also the spring isn't a return spring it is a light preload spring that gives the small pressure on the throwout bearing to give it 0 clearance.

mine squels aswell, replaced the broken spring at the pedal.... and it still does it... I experimented with a manual spring at the actual box itself to return the fork..... stopped squelling but the pedal would come up past the brake pedal and all that sort of shit...

I got no idea what the problem is... but I think it's something internally in the box to do with the fork not being setup right or something..... like at the moment, my fork can be moved up and down and so fourth... and knocks around when you put your foot on the clutch...

Any recommendations? sorry to take over your thread, was mainly asking the person who wrote this post because you seem to know about the manuals.

    Cheers

From the book it shows that the spring actually assists the pedal down ....that is it isn't a return spring its a spring that preloads the throwout bearing so there is no freeplay. Is that how the spring works now after you installed the new one?
With the spring broken the pedal didn't move when you adjusted it as per the factory manual at the gearbox end of the cable but still didn't have pressure put on the throwout bearing so it squeals as it moves on the throwout fork at idle with no pressure on it with the vibrations from the engine etc.
When I got the new spring it seemed to be too tight so I adjusted it so it worked without too much tension but still put the preload on the throwout bearing to stop it squealing when your foot is off the pedal and it works great.
How did you put the spring on the pedal?....seemed impossible to do without hurting yourself.
From when I started the car ( at the time the pedal spring was broken)after I rebuilt it,it had this annoying squeal when idling and your foot was off the clutch.
If you put your foot lightly on the clutch does the squeal go away?
The brake and clutch pedal don't seem to be sitting in line anyway if nothing is depressed.....seems to be normal with the 168mm adjustment from the floor to the bare pedal that it should have if it is adjusted correctly.
