Hey everyone,
Hoping someone can help me, I've got a 5 litre converted to LPG about three months or so ago, the car has been fine although from time to time I get a smell of petrol in the cabin, last night was very strong almost as if the tank was leaking into the cabin. Any suggestions on what it could be? A couple of people have mentioned the flowback tube into the tank but where does that run and how can I check it?
I've switched the car back to petrol but am trying not to use it till I can get this sorted out.
Cheers
Barrie
Check the hoses to the filler cap for cracking (common) and also the ones at the charcoal canister next to the radiator.
Check all the fuel lines and connections from the engine right back to the tank. If you can't find any leaks, check around the petrol tank for signs of fuel leaks- there is a plastic vent pipe that runs across the top of the tank from the filler - the tank has to be removed to repair or replace the hose, and it's a bit fiddly to refit, but it's common for the hose to become brittle and crack, I've done a bunch of these, but mainly on earlier models.
Thanks guys, I finally found the problem with the help of Profix at Modbury. The fuel dampner? {never knew I had one?] was leaking causing the smell. Problem is this, the fuel pump ran dry causing the main fuse to go which caused the car to stop locking, unknocking, starting etc. Got the main fix does but now I think I need my BCM done. The airbag is constantly showing. Does anyone know where I can get a cheap BSM for a VS Statesman 5.0
have you had the airbag checked to make sure its not that that's putting the warning light one.
We got rep back, yaaay!

No not yet I got the car back from the mechanics about a week ago, they had it for three days and when I got it back I really needed it for work. The airbag warning light was on when I got in the car so assuming that it has worked fine up till then I went off on a limb and said that the BCM could have been damaged. Also the fully automatic antenna suddenly stopped working too at the same time. Coincidence?
I will take it in to a proper auto-electrician soon and get it checked. I don't think that I'll be rushing back to the mechanics I went to again. I couldn't believe that they let me drive away in a car that is pretty clearly displaying a major safety malfunction, and I'm sure that if they saw this thread they'd feel that I was unfairly criticising them. How would you all feel?
There should be a fuel shut-off solenoid/relay somewhere in engine bay, possibly close to fuel rail, i'd be inclined to check that! You could have an intermediately working (faulty) solenoid or wiring could be shorting out somewhere. Possibly it is letting short bursts off of fuel (petrol) to mix with gas.
