    Default Swapping left to right????

    Hi,

As most of you know that commies with IRS get really bad tire wear on the inside.
So I wanna know that is it ok to swap the rear (Directional) tires to the opposite sides cos the front ones already have wear on them. (So cannot use the front ones)
I have 17"s on ROH mags but the tire states that it rotate only one way I assume that it would be dangerous or unsafe (No Grip) to have the tire rotating the opposite way after the swap??
(I know a camber kit will correct this but my funds are short due to some engine problem which must be corrected first, so please leave out camber kit suggestions)
The car is not lowered (Yet!)

    Thanks in advance guys!!!!

grip is effected slightly but not much the only thing that happens is that the tyres tend to wear more quickly because the rubber is moving in the opposite direction than its supposed to, also you'll find that the tread gets bumpy and uneven which will cause vibration problems
    We got rep back, yaaay!

you can get your tyres swapped onto the opposite rims and keep the tread facing the right way. costs about $40-50 for a swap and balance on the rear

You will need to get the tyres swapped on the rims or the worn part will still be on the inside.

also depending on the current wear on the inner tread, if its below legal, its easier for the coppers to get u for defect, once swapped.

You guys reckon that any tire place will swap my tires to the opposite rims even tho there is a bit of wear on the tires?? The tires are in very good cond't only inner is worn a bit but the outer side is like 85% tread on them. I just don't want them forcing me to buy a new tire. As I said before my funds are short due to the engine work I'm doing.(Fixing problms) so new tires is out of option atm.

    Default Yeah no worries

I've had the tyres spun 180 degrees on the rims at a couple of tyre places before, cost me $20 for both and they rebalanced them. I had it done for a similar reason, I think the outside had worn more than the inside on the front tyres on my LC Torana. But I left the wheels on the front of the car, and had the shop do a wheel alignment at the same time. The car always pulled to the left and I thought they had stuffed up the alignment, but when I finally put brand new tyres on the front, the car drove perfectly straight so I can only think the unevenly worn tyres made the steering pull. So maybe your car will feel a bit different to drive. Nothing a small burnout might fix though If you have them spun 180 degrees on the rim, and then swap the sides the rims are on, the tyres should be turning the right direction again right???

Yeah it would turn in the right direction.... So I think I'm gonna get them spun 180 degrees like you did and see how it goes. Hope I could do this under $50.
Looks like my rear main seal on the Ecotec needs replacing so won't be able to afford new tires for a long while yet.

It should be $20-30 if you just take the wheels in, off the car. If someone said $50 to me I would want gold plated wheel weights or something! How bad is the main seal? I don't know of a Holden that doesn't leak oil! If your car hasn't blown the trans yet (it's an auto isn't it?) you could wait until it does (they seem to go around the 150,000KM mark), and make sure you get them to replace the main seal then. The only reason it costs so much is the labour pulling out the box to do it - I don't think the seal costs more than $20, I paid $10 for a front seal.

My car has done about 219,000k's now and is in for a service soon. The tranny (Auto) is going really good and have no probs with it but it just recently the engine has very rough idle and when I checked the rear where the tranny bolts on to the engine there is a wet look all over the tranny and I assume the seal would need replacing.
How much will it cost to replace the main seal including labor??

Not sure about the rough idle, wait until after the service I 'spose and see if that fixes the rough idle. Not sure on the main seal, I never pay people to do that sort of thing but then I never fix them any more either!!! Maybe call a couple of auto trans shops for quotes on the main seal as well - every mechanic I know carries on about how hard it is but all you have to do is pull the box out - which trans shops do all day everyday!!! So it would probably be quicker = less labour cost. It would take no more than 2-3 hours labour to do it with a hoist + the seal cost.

Thanks a lot for your input!! Yeah I decided to take your advice and call tranny shops around my area instead of my mechanic.(I think his is very busy atm with all these old cars breaking down in summer!!)
As for the rough idle, I wait and see how it goes after the service but I doubt it will fix it cos only recently I replaced the sparks and the leads. I'm suspecting its the coilpacks or the engine control unit and Vacum lines.
