it would just need to be engineered (if not already) for the engine substitution and pass a normal roadworthy.
hey guys im just about to purchase a vs stato with a gen 3 in it.its all there runin a t400 355gears surge tank.lowerd, exhaust, microtech runs 12s.....
now what the hell would this thing need to be rego on the rd.its still regod in ic.what would it need to be rw there or any where alse for that matter???![]()
it would just need to be engineered (if not already) for the engine substitution and pass a normal roadworthy.
whats needs to be done when engineered
Make sure that the front springs are heavy duty, How much was he asking for it?
10k still with rego
10k with rego for that, to be honest, something has to be wrong (ie - not engineered)..
a normal vs 5l stato can still fetch 10k...

easy way to do it. if you have the money tell the bloke your buying it from to get it engineered all ready for rego and you will pay for everything plus a bit on top for his troubles.
that way it all ready for you and you dont have to stress
everything, the authorised inspector will have to go over the entire car to ensure that the car is:
*able to support and safely operate the substitute engine - meaning that there is the appropriate k-frame for the engine and all chassis work/welding has been done to a safe quality.
*the installation of engine is that of tradesman-like standard - so all wiring is wrapped in conduit, accessories to the engine are secured as intented (no gaff tape, lol), factory safety items for the engine are still in place (heat shields, shrouds, p/s rack boots,etc..), adequate support and clearance for parts.
*data on the engine must be present - engine number with receipts for proof of ownership for the engine,etc..
*capacity of engine must not exceed a safe operating level for the car - meaning upgraded brakes and suspension, the cars safety must not be adversely affected with the substitute engine.
*compliance with law - pretty straight forward, what you've done needs to be legal and retain pollution filtering equiptment like cats, also the exhaust needs to be under the legal db rating.
thats roughly what will need looking at, there is more little things, but you get the idea.
yeah i went and spoke to regency 2 day.gave me a form for it....basicly also comes down to what poer the car makes compared to the stock 5ltr so ill have to fit correct brakes and stuff like that....
well its not imposible.and brake up grade is a must for evry high powerd car......and its worth it when you pull up next to a 5ltr and you know you have a gen 3 .....
Well think of it this way, most of the work has been done already for you, conversion, wiring n stuff.. so ur picking up a car that is very very cheap.
although on the other hand, the conversion may not have been done that well in the first place, and may be a total lemon..
yeah true that hey.goes well thoe...but with the microtech that wont be aloud and neither will surge tank....mite stick to the sky line ...
How do you plan on getting it home? If it hasn't been engineered (I can assure you, for that price it hasn't)... then it technically isn't road legal.
If he is getting rid of it for the price of a stock 5l stato, then SOMETHING has to be wrong. Engine costs $5k+, you would need a GENIII trans too, ECU, wiring, installation, etc etc... something is wrong.

no harm in asking more questions, ask and ask and ask, find out what he's done, where it was done, who has had input into some if any of the work.. if he's willing to hand it over for 10k with road worthy, i'd be taking it! even if he wants another $500, for getting the legalities sorted..
Stay wery, the worst is u say no..
*shrug*
after market computers big no no in sa.
as for the gen3 trans pffft it has a t400 in it already.
i would drive it homewhy not worst thing that could happen is defect.
and mattman i wouldnt pay 10k for a 5ltr stato been there done that 5ltrs are to hard to sell and not owrth the mulla.
i have decided on going a vn for project anyway.
