ok. i am gettin for free a cat back exhaust including the cat. And now for the llegal bit. The cat is gutted. not my doing but still. i am just wondering if having the "hi-flowcat" will mess around with any settings i.e oxygen settings etc. if it will i'll just put my cat on if i can ever get the damn bolts to loosen. thx for any help
it wont affect anything, the oxy sensors are in the headers before the cat, so it will be fine - apart from the illegal factor and possibly the smell...some gutted out cats have a bit of a smell happening.
i spose i should mention as well if you get caught by the epa they will fine you - big time.
yeh thats what i thought. tried tellin him and he wouldnt listen. i think i'll put my cat on and see how it goes then try the gutted. see what is better. and if i do stick with the gutted i'll keep the stock one in case sumthin happens.....
My car is no more than 1 tenth slower over the 1/4 with a good cat over a hollow one and that's on a 5 liter, it wouldn't be any difference at all on a V6
Isnt it about a 5k fine these days if your found to be using an illegal cat?

when I had mine out it only gave me .5sec differance over the 1/4mile also made it use alot more fuel
i'm not lookin for any power or time or nethin. its just comin with the exhaust so thought id make sure
don't do it unless you have 10k spare to give to the EPA

no im not doin it. not even goin with that exhaust. i'll have to get another cat tho cause of an incident with putting on a catback exhaust i got cheap{see thread "exhaust woes} which left one thread kinda stripped. i'll be getting an exhaust made up instead soon cause this one rattles at low speed low revs and it whistles at high revs
ok well i have a redback without the resonator on my v6 and the guts were ripped out by the previous owner.
sounds really good no drone, no difference in consumption.
although im surprised it hasnt been pulled over cause when you downshift for the lights it crackles and burbles and stuff.
but its quite when cruising or on the highway.
if your getting an exhaust made up you might as well get a twincat system
And yes i do realise its illegal but meh.
cheers
lol i wrote that wrong. an exhaust, twin cat system because the engine is getting work done to it. and i kno tha Not_An_Abba_Fan doesnt see the point in twin cat system on a 6 but i'm gettin an engine rebuilt and worked so i want to do this first
If you are planning to force it yeah its a good thing, but otherwise its just overkill. The exhaust will flow too much and be pretty much useless in normal driving situations. But if you plan to run it on the strip then it would work well. One thing I would suggest though is to run it into a single 2 1/2" pipe on the rear just to give it a nice torque curve, you will lose too much down low with it twin all the way. Worked as in stroked?
twin turbo with a 4.2 lt stroker kit. stronger internals, heads ported and polished. basically an engine fully re-done but im gonna use a LS1 or L67 and convert that into my car. i'm thinkin of just goin simple catback now until i get the cash for this plan
