i would only get msd coils if there's something wrong with your current ones (and your in the market for new ones anyway) - or you have a pretty serious engine, in which case they would be worth while.
i doubt you would even register any difference otherwise.
ive got some on my car, but i couldnt say whether they changed anything as they were put in during the engine build.

you would probably only notice any difference when comparing them on a dyno. install the complete MSD dis4 iginition system if you really wana improve your iginition, especially about 5000rpm

Honestly a spark is a spark... you only really need to upgrade the ignition if the current system is insufficient. As you increase the pressure in the cylinder by shaving heads, adding forced induction etc its gets increasingly difficult for a spark to strike in the cylinder, in which case you might need MSD coils to strengthen the spark a bit. Much like you only need to upgrade the fuel system if the current one is maxed out, otherwise there will be no benefit.

i watched the street commodores dvd that came with there magazine, and they had a split fire service kit, which contained, split fire spark plugs and leads, and a re usable air cleaner, just from this kit, they gained 10kw on the dyno, upgrading coil packs mite do a little bit, but upgrade the lead and plugs along with it i rekon

A proper service will always gain you a bit of power like that. I saw that dvd as well and I suspect that most of the gain came from the new air filter... the old one was absolutely filthy.

yeah i seen the dvd to thats where i got the idea from, so you do gain something out of it but just a little,
is it worth going a head with it and changing the coils and leads?

change the leads but don't bother with the coils.

msd ignition products are made for the cars pushin 300-400+ ponies.....the coils in the holdens are more than adequate for street use.....dont waste your money on the msd's.....they arent worth it on those engines

I agree with the last couple of guys in that only get them if there is something wrong with your current coils or you want to dress up the engine bay a little.
I've had mine for 3-4yrs now and they have run without problem, but I originally bought them when one of my factory ones started missing and the cost between factory and the MSD's was only minimal.
I also run NGK Iridium plugs and Magnecor R100 leads on a supercharged 6 running 19psi pulley.

they have the benefit of extra long life, but other than that, no real difference.

According to the NGK site Iridiums take less voltage to ignite so if that is true then there is less chance for a plug to develop a miss, plus the IX version with .6mm tip are supposed to last 40-60,000 klms which helps to slightly offset the extra cost over stock.
