Hi all,
I have two faults I would like some help on for my VS Berlina 3.8
1) Climate control, Fuse checks out fine, but there is no power anywhere on the A/C relay in the engine bay. The climate control unit is working correctly at temperatures above ambient the fan is varying in speed when called for. The A/C icon is displayed on the Climate control unit, but there is nothing on the dash (If theres supposed to be or not I don't know)
2) Cruise control, it doesn't work, nothing clicks, no icon on dash. Fuse is ok. I think I need to start at the control unit in the engine bay to check for switch inputs. Where is a good place to download a really good set of wiring diagrams
If anyone would be good enough to offer some assistance to help me I am most greatful to you.
Nathan
Climate control has temperature on the LCD display, if that is displaying the temp but not getting cold you may need a regas.
With the cruise control, are your brake lights working? If not, check the fuse as the cruise circuit is on that fuse.
Yeah break lights are aweet az. I am hoping to find from someone some good drawings to do the whole input output thing.
As for A/C I will try the re gas as it hasen't been used for what I can gather for a VERY long time!
If I get time I will do it up 2night for you. Only going to be by hand though.
Having a look at the cruise control circuit. The components to check are:
Fuse 8,10 and 11.
Stop lamp switch A & B.
Cruise module (Low series)
Body control module (high series - berlina falls in this category)
Cruise control switch
Cruise control actuator
I think there is a cruise control relay too, inside the car. If there is, swap that over with another and see if that helps.
The cruise control actuator needs to receive a signal from the speedo, so if you arent getting a speedo signal, the cruise wont activate.
Cruise will deactivate if the brake pedal or control switch is pressed. There are two switches on the break pedal support bracket. I would check these, if one is stuck, it may be stopping the cruise from activating.
The cruise control module sits near the air intake. Its a black box with a cable or two running to it. Make sure that the connector is nice and tight. Make sure its clean.
Gregorys manual runs through most of the cruise system, and explains how to adjust the cruise cancel switches, if that is your problem. It does note that the system can be complex and should be refered to a professional.
Holden can connect the tech1 to your car and run through the cruise control fairly easily to test all of the components, probably the easiest way if you get stuck. They simply run through a yes/no checklist, so they should be able to find the problem within a few minutes.
Nathan,
Have you checked the wires at the end of the indicator stalk. With the constant on/off of your indicators the wear and tear on the wires can lead to one of them braking. This is what happened on mine and have later found it is quite a common problem. If it is the case getting a new stalk (about $50 on ebay) might be the best solution as there is not much play in the wire to allow for re-soldering.
Cheers
Wayne
Thanks for the help.
Will see my local Holden service agent, i've used that tech plug in controller before on another fault, I think they charged me around $20 to diagnose and completed a full system check while they were at it.
Saves getting pissed off when you can't find that pesky wire I suppose. But sometimes the satisfaction of knowing you did it yourself is a boost.
Success
Wayne, thanks for the advice. I have 3 broken wires, just roughly joined them up with tape to test, and she works a treat. I have pulled apart the stalk completely and soldered new wires onto the PCB.
My intermittent window wipers don't work, so I checked the wires on that side of things, and sure enough, another broken wire. So, same again and works perfect.
Mint!!
Cheers
