wanting to get this.

he says its just plug in and away you go. but i remember reading that an extra plug and/or loom is needed. whats the go? thxx
I can do the mod for you for beerI did the same thing on my old VS. You CAN do it, but it takes a bit of modifying.
Plugging in the cluster WILL work straight away, but the trip computer won't. Just remember that the V6 and V8 ones are different so it would pay to check if that is a V6 cluster.
To do the mod you will also need a dash loom from any VR/VS that had that the level 3 cluster standard (berlina, calais, statesman, and some HSV I think) and the trip computer buttons. Once you have those two items, you are ready to install it.
Its not a matter of simply swapping the dash looms over I'm afraid, as there are other differences. You need to splice a section of the level 3 loom into your existing loom to make way for the trip computer.
In my opinion a MORE than worthwhile mod!!![]()

ok. i kno where there is a vr berlina that i think has the wiring standard i can get the wiring from. as for the trip computer buttons, which ones are they? i've been wanting to do this for a while cause my odometer and trip counter doesnt work. i can get these parts cheap i reckon. i'll stop in at the wreckers on my way home from work tomorrow. am really hopin to have this done before the cruise![]()

that is what you want. I got mine for $25 which is about the going rate I think. Don't remember how much the loom was... $60 or so maybe
EDIT: it SAYS "trip computer" but the actual trip computer is in the instrument cluster... this little device only contains microswitches and a connector, so don't be fooled into paying too much for one.

ok. i can get the buttons. the loom should be no problem just have to figure out how the loom comes out without damaging
its difficult but possible. It runs behind the whole width of the dash, all the way over to the passenger side, but it can be removed by going through bit by bit undoing (read CUTTING lol) all the ties that hold it in place, and pulling it out through the drivers side under the dash. Bit fiddly, but certainly possible. You need to remove the instrument cluster and its surround, and possibly the glove box. I don't remember too well lol. Also if you ever plan on getting it back in again, MAKE SURE you run a draw wire behind the bit of plastic behind the instrument cluster... it will be REALLY REALLY hard if you don't![]()

ok. it looks like i'll be getting this next saturday so i'll have enough time to get it out and all that. i'll be getting the buttons, the facial {which i'll have to paint} and loom if i have the money. if not i'll just have to wait till after the cruise. but i think i will have to get someone to do this for me.
stupid question. with the trip computer, whats that do? if i dont wire that up will the odometer work?
TBH I do not know... the odometer is not visible unless the trip computer is connected, but I do not know if it actually ticks over or not when disconnected... if you want I can test this by disconnecting my trip computer on the way to work tomorrow... then I'll be able to tell you.

lol i mite take you up on that. damn. cant but alcohol for another 2 and a half months. lol i'll get my uncle to get it.
sorry if this is obvious but wanna make sure. if i get one of these, its simple as taking off cover, takeing out standard one and plugging the standard plugs into this one. so the tacho, speedo, fuel and temp guages will work, just not the odometer until i get the trip computer hooked up. is that rite?
yep its that easy![]()

ok cool. i'm gonna get one before the cruise and get the other stuff hooked up after. thx ben
ok. much cheaper then i thought. i can get the dash loom for $10. the instrument surround with the trip control hole for $10. and the trip buttons for $10-$15. so will be getting them either this weekend or next.
k guys im 90% through this mod, i need a picture of someones ecu where to put the yellow/black wire then all done![]()

i was hoping for an actual photo as ill be f***ked if i can see where i have to put this wire, which clip does it go in i have a vs exec
geez mate would you like someone to come and do it for you?
The diagram shows the colours of all the other wires in that connector so it really should not be that difficult to find. Its one of the connectors that plugs into the ECU...

lol
the problem was there was 2 yellow black wires pluging into the ecu.
contacted dr bob he was able to head me in the right direction by telling me the location of the wire is F7. which is all i needed to know, as this was not in diagram.
cheers and thanks for your help

Hate to dig up an old thread guys but my memory is shot on where to find the info.
I have only just (right this second) finally got myself a LVL3 Dash cluster off Ebay and I have a trip computer also on route.
Now, once I get my techno hands on everything, I'm going to want to fit it all but I know its not that easy.
I know there was a guide on what wires had to be spliced into where for the LVL3 conversion, but I cannot find it.
I have a S2 Acclaim and want to do as little as possible for this changeover, so the less cutting and splicing I do the better (because of business, time is a measure I dont have)
Does anyone have a guide handy for this conversion?
I'll have everything I need shortly - dash, trip comp and a 4th plug (not a full loom)...is this ok? or do I actually need to get the full loom?
I do not have climate control at this stage but plan to in the future if possible so please bare that in mind.
Can I just splice the 4th plug into the existing loom behind the cluster or is it much more involved?
Or...a better idea is this!
I will be in Sydney (Windsor area) from Sunday 9th September until Wednesday 12th September. If anyone is up that way that can assist with the conversion, that would be great! I am happy to either pay or chuck a case of beer to anyone if they're around.
Look forward to replies guys.

Im not sure if this is what you were looking for but it goes through the procedure on how to upgrade to a level three cluster.
vs dash upgrade
Ahh yes, thats what I was chasing. Shame it doesnt have a full detailed image version.
I've heard there is a much "less involved" way of doing this...someone please correct me if there is.
I may be in wrong in saying that could it be as simple as just splicing the 4th plug that im buying into the loom behind the dash cluster...
Or is it not that simple?
