Has anyone successfully replaced the balance shaft bearings in an buick series II V6 engine without removing the engine? Is it possiable to just drop the trans out a bit to get access? Cheers
i would have loved an answer to this also. Im getting that noise from the rear of the motor, and im losing power, replaced everything, code error 36 or watevs for vacuum leak, mysterious little thing, un traceable.
Take the manifold off? I just got rid of the balance shaft all together![]()
Runs good ever since I put the double row timing chain in, feels like it revs a little bit easier and doesn't sound as droney around 2500-3000, but I don't know if that's placebo (makes sense since its not spinning a balance shaft off the cam, and the balance shaft is a big piece of metal)
Also sounds healthier since the 2 main rattling noises are gone (balance shaft bearing and timing chain tensioner)
Everyone says it has a bad vibration at around 1700-1800 but I've never had that problem since the torque converter flashes straight past that point and I have diff gears so it revs at 2300 on the freeway...
My car is rough on idle, but I am due for new engine and trans mounts..
Hopefully delco or immortality see this and they can comment on their experience![]()
Just yank it out, throw it in the bin and put a dual row timing chain on.
you will barely notice it
Hit me up with some reputation points if i've helped you out! (Star in the bottom left!) Cheers!
