Last night at sometime, someone has smashed my quarter door panel window and rummaged through my VS. Lucky i took everything out a few days before, but now im stuck with replacing a window, iv been quoted 169.00 from o'briens, anyone have a rough idea of what i should be getting quoted? is this about right?
Sorry about what happened!! If $169 includes fitting, I think that is not too bad maybe should be a tad cheaper.
yeah it does include fitting, but then iv gotta fork out for the tint as well![]()
looking at it again, it looks like it hasnt even been smashed, no glass inside or out, it almost looks like it has been popped out?
Do you mean the window is completely missing - no smashed glass anywhere? If so then maybe someone had theirs smashed and knocked yours off.
Wreckers sometimes are a good source for these windows and if you are lucky you may get a tinted one.
O'Briens often overquote and will then drop the price if you say someone else has offered it for $120.....nothing to lose.
yeah completely missing dude, no smashed glass that i can see anywhere. but how could they get it out ?
If I remember right, there are 3 bolts holding the frame of the window in from the inside. Maybe with enough force they have pulled the glass out of the frame? I cant imagine how its possible, will have to have a closer look. Scary thought. Is the frame still there. Maybe they were nice and broke the cheapest window and vacuumed it for you. Just something to check, your insurance wont cover you?
Use one of the sink plungers - they're a 4" (100mm) diameter suction cap from Bunnings and they will stick to a smooth surface like glass and you can then apply as much force as you like whilst with your other hand you use a flat screwdriver to ease the rubber seal away. Forget the frame - you're only after the glass. I reckon it would be apiece of cake to do.
As a piece of 'errata". many years ago in Newtown (Sydney) there was a spare parts shop where a customer would go to the counter, ask for a FJ Holden hubcap or whatever, wait a few minutes and were handed one. They had runners who would do a quick "one time around the block" to find the part off a parked car. If it was a major part they'd knock the car off and take it to a quiet spot and strip it while the customer waited at the counter. Probably still happens.
