The Transducer, the little part that plugs into your gearbox that the speedo and odo get their info from, has crapped its self/broken a wire. bout $100 from memory, pretty easy to replace too.

goddess, this is a common fault, most of the time its the cog that drives the needle and odometer. the gear can be bought for $5-15. easy to replace and below is the link to the How To.
Broken Odometer
Cheers
When that little gear fails, it stops the odometer from working, not the speedo. So there is an issue elsewhere, other then that gear failing.
Jumping Commodores is the right thing to do... Flex is a good thing.
I am experiencing a similar fault with my VR II where the spedo sometimes works and then it just stays at zero. The odometer still works and also tried the trick with the speed alert and that displays the speed ok.
Looks like I am going to have to rip out the dash and get it looked at, or have a look at it myself.![]()
talking about speedo's my fuel and temp need a little hit now and then.. does anyone know why i have to give it a little tap here and there.... or any fixes would be great
thanks all
hmmm so it looks like i have to look at a couple of things shouldnt cost me that much hey???????
if u have to hit ur dash to get it to work again then the silicon inside the guage has melted of stuffed .. i no this because when i got my speedo fixed that is what the guy said on cost me 60 bucks from an instrument repairer

If both your speedo and odo don't work, I say for certain it is the transducer, but as I've never had a problem in the dash, I can't say that it is 100% the problem.
Jump under the car, or get your other half to, find the transducer, can't remember which side it is located on, give the wires a wiggle as see what happens.
What may have happen, which i believe to have happened to mine, when someones changed the clutch, they have either not unplugged the wires or have managed to damage it somehow.

If you need to tap the dash to fix it, there is either a bad connection or the needle or the 'motor' that drives the needle is tight. You will probably find that taking it out (follow that how-to link higher up on the page) putting a tiny bit of oil on the needle, so that it runs down the shaft to the motor, and putting it all back together will fix the problem. Putting it back together usually pushes all connections back correctly so that she will work again.
well ok guys i changed the transducer and there was no change so it might be the cluster but still unsure
do u think there could be any other reason why the speedo and odo aren't working other than the cluster now that ive changed the transducer???
just had a look at the how to link higher above but does that apply for odo AND speedo not working or just the odo not working?
yeah i have everything seems to be ok in that department im changing the cluster on saturday so im hoping thats all i gotta do if not id have to say im all out of ideas............
ill have to take it to an instrument repairer
Is it a big job to get the cluster out ??
I have had my VR II for almost 1 week and the speedo not working is pissing me off.
Any hidden screw's etc or tips from some pro's when removing the cluster ??
go here and it will tell u step by step on how to get ur cluster out
