G'Day Ppl,
Just thinking that I might get some Spare Parts beforte I NEED them.
What should I consider for a 1998 V6 VS?
OR, to put it another way................
What is likely to let go?
Ignition CoilPacks?
Front Rotors?
Shockies.....what is "normal" mileage out of them?
Get 'em before I require them and NOT pay TOP $$$$
I'm out West, and the local Robbers just keep adding $$$$ after $$$$ to the Price
Thanks for your thoughts![]()

Front rotors and shockers will eventually just clap out, but it depends on mileage and how the car has been looked after, and what servicing has been done. My front rotors were changed at 160,000km, as they were warped and couldn't be machined any further. I'm still running the original suspension now at 190,000km and I'm pretty sure its clapped anyway, as the springs have slightly sagged on the right hand side of the car. Coil packs, its pretty rare for these to go, and if they do, it is usually only ONE pack that needs replacing, not all three.
How many km has your car done?
If you haven't had to replace a crank angle sensor it would be worth getting one of those...
I've replaced a few things on my car in the time I have had it, being 5 years and 85,000km:
Crank Angle sensor, Master cylinder for the brakes, starter motor, water pump, power steer pump, fan amplifier for the climate control, solenoid pack for the climate control, air con hose from the compressor to the receiver dryer and condensor, and the 3-2 shift solenoid in the auto transmission. Thats about all I can think of for the time being....
You could also go engine mounts, sump gasket, rear main seal, extension housing seal, heater tap and maybe fuel pump.
The list could be never endingbut those are the bits i've seen fail pretty regularly.
Whoever said 'There is no substitute for cubes' had obviously never heard of Jet power
Brake Light GLOBES, stock up big on these (for any commodore owner, saw a brand new VZ cop car with a brake light already out haha)
Get some decent rotors, nit just stock ones. Mine have been on for years, and i do plenty of burnouts, although i have a line locker to cut off the back brakes

keep a spare set of plugs, leads, a coil pack and a secondhand ignition module (i think they are fairly pricey new) as coil pask and leads die pretty easy on the VS and its not uncommon for them to eat an ignition module.

just check out ebay whenever stuff goes, forget tha spare parts store. i know this post isnt the answer to your question, but i think thats easiest way to do it, no matter how far you're out, postage wont be too bad

I would just keep service items and emergency break down items. Otherwise your shed will look like an auto parts store. It is hard to say what you need to keep. Going from personal experience, four years of owning my VS I've done front and rear pads, link pin bushes, starter solenoid, CAS and water pump. Then only the periodic services. All of the above have been done early on too, so it's probably been 2 1/2 - 3 years since doing a "repair". Keep checking things as you service it, and get what you need based on what is wearing out rather than stocking up on bits you may never use.
