Keeping my auto g/box, it's got a stage 3 shift kit in it already with thicker bands etc... what's involved with manualising it fully? Simple enough to do or needlessly expensive??
The car is my daily.
Any info appreciated.

hey sam,
technically a stage 3 shift kit is a manualised auto.. not too sure on whats been done to yours, sounds like its been strengthened enough, but whether they classed the extra strengthened bits to stage 3, its still a stage 2 with strengthened internals.
wouldnt think its too much to go manual since most of the work has been done already.. i'd do the ol ring around n find out what it'll cost.
sorry im not too much help
yeah, strange, a stage 3 shift kit should be completely manual, thats what stage 3 is.
anyway, as far as im aware all thats needed is the shift kit installed with manual valve body and you've got a manual auto. any stage over 2 is basically manual anyway, or you can drive it manually i should say (hold any gear to any rpm manually).
Quagmire: My fellow Americans, I have not been entirely truthful with you. I did gagoogidy that girl. I gashmoygadied her gaflavity with my googus. And I am sorry.
I am in the process of shift kitting my vs, was contemplating stage 3, but have a question. I can manually run through the gears on my vs now, whats difference between runnin through them on a standard box, and a fuuly manualised box?
Fully manualised won't kick down at all. it stays in the gear you put it in, it's locked there. We have a manualised trimatic in a HK Monaro for sale at work
My turn for another question... Fully manualised boxes..will they still work with the standard auto shifter or do I need a B&M piece??

Oh yeah I never thought of that...... hmm.. that's definitely one to think about. Are there any disadvantages to manualising? (Apart from the fact that you can't be lazy and just leave it in D any more)
Also, I'm very interested to see pictures of people who have put a B&M shifter in their standard centre console.. I don't want to butcher my interior to stick a new shifter in there..
Thanks guys, this thread's very helpful.

Personally if going B&M i'd get the quicksilver. The Pro Ratchet is horrid I think.
Which is which? I've driven that manualised HK monaro i mentioned, the shifter is a ratchet setup I think, it seems okYou put it in drive then just whack it forwards or backwards for upshift/downshift. The T-bar (it is a T-bar, not a round knob thing) doesn't actually move, it bounces back to the same position in any gear (except neutral reverse and park lol)
What's the difference between the quicksilver and the pro ratchet? Is the one I just described either of those?

sounds like pro ratchet to me
So what's better about the quicksilver?? How is it different?

i'd keep the stock shifter, whenever i hold it back gears and change up manually now, i never go to far,
I'd be interested to see a photo of that sort of installation if anyone has one... with just the shifter visible.
I don't understand what could be illegal about the pro ratchet shifter... it's just a different type of the same basic thing lol ... Anybody know why this would be the case?

Aha. I can see how that could be less than desirable.... Shame, it's far less bulky than the quicksilver unit. Still after more pics of the quicksilvers though...

Haven't spoken to them yet, will have to on Monday though.... fault code #68 is coming up - transmission component slipping. With one week until a dyno day!!! *rant!*
I'm going to need to think quickly to recover lost horsepower!
