    Default Colum Shift

Hey, just got a VS Ute auto colum shift, it plays up occassionally when trying to start, you have to pull back and forth the lever so as it recongnises its in Park to start, is there a switch here or somewhere or how to fix it.

Also does VL Mags fit Vs ute

    Thanks

hey mate, welcome to the forums,

im not 100% familar with the colum shifts, but with all autos theres a selector or inhibitor switch that tells teh ignition system that its in park or neutral. that switch is whats causing your problems. U'll have to remove the steering colum covers, and that should expose enough of the insides for you to locate the switch. ur prolly up for a new switch, not sure if its serviceable, but it may work for a month then die again, so best to purchase a newie from holden.
Give this a go: try putting it in neutral, and try starting it, if its working fine with out giggling it around, that will get you out, but means ur still up for a new switch.

VL mags may fit up ok, the only thing u'll have to check out is the offset of the wheel. if its not suited to ur VS, it'll rub on the guards.. but fit em on and try em.

good luck, and let us know how u go

As ^, have dealt with problems on older cars with column autos, however, the switches have been generally at the base of the column.....suggest you look around here before you go ripping the steering wheel off etc.

According to my Gregory's manual the inhibitor switch for the column shift is on the side of the transmission and it can be adjusted.
