Default Transmission Dipstick not locking properly

    Hi All,

Just discovered a bit of an issue with my transmission dipstick, in that it doesn't seem to lock properly anymore. It still clips / locks down, but I can still pull the dipstick out or move it around. Does anyone know what the go is here? Do I just need to go and get a new dipstick, and if thats the case, do Holden still sell them?

    Cheers

Mine is rusty too. You might be able to pick a decent on up from a wreckers. Just give it a good clean before using it.

With the rust i gave mine a hit with sandpaper and then wiped some tranny oil all over it.

At the locking end of the dipstick are 2 rubber seals - not sure if they are "O" rings or what but you can bet your last razoo that if they were replaced the dipstick would not get loose - I'll have a good look at mine and report back.
Rust on the dipstick is cause for worry and could indicate coolant leaking into the trans oil thru the cooler located inside the radiator.

I have an seperate cooler on mine so the rust is not from radiator coolant. The rust has not come back since i got the tranny rebuild, so whatever it was must have been from the old tranny.
