Default Is this a police spec speedo cluster?

I have a speedo here that was pulled from a V6 VR , it only goes to 200kph and has increments of 2kph. Also has an adjustment for calibration on the back of it , and a light up the top external from the ribbon cable.

I'm guessing its police spec as its different from my current speedo , as it goes to 220kph.

Also , whats a good price for a low km speedo thats been repaired with new gear drives
Its not what you know or who you know , its how well you can fake it

Yeah thats definately a police spec speedo, the idea for the light was so that the rest of the dash could be switched off, and only speedo showing... not sure if maybe this was used in some sort of undercover type thing, if they were travelling without headlights or parking lights on?

Not sure on what its worth though....

people actually buy low K clusters in order to trick people? It's just the first thing that came to my mind when they said "how much would someone pay for a low k's speedo" I had never thought of that.

as tempting as it is to have my car say its only done 130 thousand, you'd get caught yeah. plus its just plain wrong

Actually , this has 200k on it , so its not really low km , but i do have another one here genuine low km , that i stuck new gears into ( the plastic wheel was broken and stuck to the master gear ) and its not been wound back like your incinuating , although by the looks of the gear setup , it wouldnt be too hard to do it.

Looking at ebay prices , the cop spec go for over $100 , so i guess the one i have that is repaired would have to be worth $75.

P.s the cop spec wasnt repaired , so km are untouched , unfixed km

im not incinuating winding them back, i was just saying the thought suddenly popped into my head, nor am I saying this is you, simply that the thought popped into my head.

The thought that people probably hunt down low k's clusters and put them in there cars to have it seem like the car has done bugger all. should be mandatory when registering to register the cars VIN and killometers.

km are recorded ( when you 1st register the car ), but what happens when the odometer does die , i mean you can get them repaired , but its cheaper to buy a replacement cluster from a wrecker than have a shop repair it!

point well taken, I myself would rather wind one forward to match my car, that's just me however, althoug my one is digital i doubt I could change it either way.

Holy crap - That's my gauge cluster. I drive a VS exec. I always wondered why I'd never seen another one like it... It's annoying, because the speedo needle doesn't light up like the RPM/Fuel/Temp ones... The only light for it is the one from the top. So of course, when that globe blew, i had to guess my speed by which bit of the cluster was blocked by the needle. Fun and games :P
