i just bought a VR/toyota lexen from my cousin the bonnet cable seems to have snapped is there anyway for me to open the bonnet? i have tryed putting my hand up thru the grill but i cant seem to get to the cable
Lie down underneath the center of the car and look up. You will see the bonnet pin and on the bottom of that pin is a grove which you can fit a flat head screw driver in, undo this pin and then you should be able to open the bonnet.
i just had a look theres a plastic covering blocking the spring/clip what now?
Someone's done this before as wellLie down underneath the center of the car and look up. You will see the bonnet pin and on the bottom of that pin is a grove which you can fit a flat head screw driver in, undo this pin and then you should be able to open the bonnet.
if you can feel resistance on the cable from inside the cabin (i.e. it's not snapped but it's not doing what it should either), it might be worth pulling the bonnet latch and at the same time giving the bonnet a hit just where your drivers side strut tower is.......
thats how the bonnet was opened before but theres alot of loose slack on the latch inside of the car so i think i have snapped it
is it the plastic covering at the bottom? if so, rip away : )
heres the plastic part in the pictures if this is ok to remove i will do so am i looking for the pin with the spring? this might be a little futher back past this plastic correct me if im wrong

:S doesn't look like that in a vn/vp
i suggest removal of plastic if you can get to it.....
but really, the pin should go through the middle of the radiator support.... i think on mine it was between the a/c condenser and the radiator mate

after messing around trying to get into this tinny little hole u speak of it was a pain in the ass i had to remove the oil cooler and move the thermo fan once i done this it clicked i should check the lever inside of the car it seems this popped out of its little socket i clipped it back in now theres tension on the cable again so i will get someone to lean on the bonnet while i open it later on thanks for your help fellas much appreciated
btw i done a search before i started this thread couldnt find one post related to bonnet cable

a friend was driving mums VP lexcen and had a bit of a bingle in a safeway carpark and smashed the indicator. I diddnt realize that the headlights were different and its very hard to find replacements. we went to a few wreckers and couldnt get a hold of one. eventually found one on ebay. someone tried to sell JUST the indicator for $120! but I was lucky and found headlight and indicator complete for $47 posted (second hand). funny how you can get two brand newies for a commodore for roughly the same price.. im never buying a lexcen!
im going to replace the cable ive been quoted $55 for the labour should i do it my self or leave it up to the mechanic?
My bonnet cable snapped on the weekend. I have already got a new cable + handle from the local Holden Dealer today for $25 which I thought was a excellent price
Now just have to find some time to change it. The cable snapped near the handle, so I may be able to grab it with vice grips.
If the cable is still in good knick it may just need to be tightened to put the tension back on it. Happened with my VK years ago. Every time I had to open the bonnet I'd have to get under the car and lever the latch open with a screwdriver, was a massive pain in the ass, until I realised the cable had just become a bit slack. Tightened her up and she was all good again!![]()
My cables gone a bit a slack, been real busy lately so i haven't had a chance to do anything about it but if i want to pop the bonnet i just hold the latch as i'm pulling into my driveway and the little bump over the gutter is enough to pop it. beats crawling round in the dirt with a screwdriver
