    Default Exhaust Noise

recently got pulled over by the boys in blue, my car was to low etc etc, anyway now i need a full roadworthy and the guy whose done it has tapped me up for my exhaust among 25 other stupid things, its not "really" that loud, twin 2 1/2 system, two mufflers and two hotdogs after the diff and 3 inch dumpers on my 5 litre....anyway he wants me to get it tested at an exhaust joint....now how do i make her a little more mundane....any ideas quick fix solutions???

    cheers

Take the dumpers off and put smaller ones on, they give the megaphone effect. Fit 2 1/4" tips temporarily, this will quieten it down.

If you want to make the system roadworthy and keep it roadworthy do what Not and Abba Fan Said. If you just want to make it roadworthy to pass and then want it back to normal whack a restrictor plate behind your cat for the test then remove it afterwards.

its a bit of a hit and miss attempt though hey...or should i replace the hotdogs and dumpers.....dont really want to chop and weld the exhaust and then convert it back once i get the paperwork....cause its not exessively loud....arrrrrrggghhhhhh maybe ill just buy a harley they seem to be able to have straight pipes no questions asked.....even though its frigen ear peircing

this so called restrictor plate....just an exhaust flange gasket made from metal with a whole in the centre???how big a hole would you drill into it, ive done this with a 15mm hole and the backpressure kills the motor at 35oo revs and it creates this high pitched wizzing sound lol, they will probably think its turbo.......

    cheers

Its just a metal plate with a whole bunch of smaller holes drilled into it. As for the number of holes to drill, it is going to be a bit of trial and error and your car probably wont rev past 4000 with the plates in.

The other option would be to find a stock system from a wreckers and bolt it on to pass roadworthy.

Hey, just out of curiosity what state are you in. Not too sure about the other states but i'm i Vic and when i got done for too loud i fixed the problem and after i'd had it checked at vic roads and the canary was taken off i then got a letter from the EPA saying i must have it checked at a licenced exhaust tester at my expense.
So just be carefull if you're going to fix it and change it straight back. You may have to do it all twice.

Fit a twin in and out rear resonator, it brings both sides of the exhaust together in the rear can and will act to cancel out most of the loud note. Will deepen the note too.
