As the title states i am looking at putting a r31 skyline LSD into a VS with live axle.
is it as simple as taking the old open center out and dropping the LSD in or is there problems with backlash etc..
thanks
matt
it really would pay to double check the backlash, however others have just fitted LSD centers to their diffs and it worked fine

there's two shims, one on either side of the centre... when you pull the old one out, make sure you remember the positioning and orientation of those shims....
use your old crownwheel on your new centre, as this and the pinion should be kept as a pair.
then simply re-insert the new LSD centre with the old crownwheel, and make sure the shims go back in the same spot they did... and likelyhood is that you will be fine.
if worse comes to worst, it will be a bit noisy, in which case you can drive your whining car to a diff man to re-shim it for pretty cheap![]()
p.s. make sure it's a 4pinon 28 spline centre! - from memory i think you'll be fine though.
also consider having the diff centre checked/rebuilt/tightened before you put it in (As it will be cheaper to do this now, rather than once it's in the car)
thanks.
i am goin 2 get it shimmed up, can anyone recomend how thick the shims should be to make it nice and tight? or what is the standard size so i can double it :P
thanks
