Painting calipers

Since I got my new rims a few weeks ago, I can now actually see the brakes and they look quite depressing.

So until I can afford to upgrade the brakes, I will just paint the hubs and calipers for now.

Question is, do I take the calipers off to do it or not?
Advantage I see to taking them off is that it will obviously be less fiddly and awkward.
Disadvantage is that the brake lines will need to be bled (unless I'm mistaken).

What have others on here done?

no don't take them off. probably better doing them with lines connected and just use heat proof paint. Maybe give them a wire brush before hand...

Just take them off and hang em, take the pads out too! I just used normal paint on mine coz they dont make a heat proof paint in the colour I wanted. Still fine more then 6 months later.

Not the lines though! Leave them conected!

Too easy. I found the How-To about it that I was looking for as well. (I was looking on the wrong website). I really should write one up for JC!
Seems like leaving them on is the way to go. I will just be sure to mask everything up well and try to be a little controlled with the spray can.

I took the instructions of another JC member a while ago when I did mine. Get some proper paint from autobarn. Cant remember what the stuff is called. Might be caliper paint. Anyway its high temp and high gloss. I got red. Just shoved pieces of ripped cardboard all around the brake caliper and gave her 2 or 3 coats. Couldnt believe how well it turned out. That was probably 3+ years ago and after a quick clean with that CRC brakeclean they still look tops. Just use some of the brakeclean to clean the site up before you paint.

VHT, they do a specific paint for calipers thats resistant to all the chemicals associated with brake parts. should be available from all good automotive outlets

I got some of the VHT caliper paint from auto pro yesterday. Was about $12 or $15

When I said don't take them off, I mean the lines of course...Yeah Caliper paint sounds like a goa. Good Luck

Yeah, I will just take the calipers off so I can move them around a bit but leave the lines attached. Rotors are already off with paint drying

Hey guys, got a quick Q.

Time has come to paint my vt twin piston calipers before they go on the car. shows the calipers painted red, but the metal bar under the actual caliper is painted black. The corresponding bar on my rear calipers is painted. Just in case you're not sure which bit i'm talking about, shown here is NickVR's rear caliper with the bar that i'm talking about painted black:

... well mine is red. So for the purpose of matching, do i just paint the whole front caliper red, or go with the black for the bar underneath the caliper?
