Default oil leak from rear live axle

    Hi all,

I've just replaced the rear axle with a second hand unit after the diff whine got too much to bear. So The whine is all gone and everything is fine except I now have a oil leak coming from the axle on the drivers side rear.

I assume this to be an axle seal or something similar, are they hard to replace??? I wouldn't have thought a rear axle seal would cost to much money??

Any advice or information relating to this would be a great help as I've been trying to learn as much as possible and do all the work myself.

    Thanks in advance

ive never done this job so I cant help there, what I can suggest is get a gregorys or a haynes manual, $50 odd dollers well spent, covers a complete teardown and rebuild of the vehicle.

well almost complete, I have done a few odd jobs not mentioned in the manuals.

thanks for that, already have a gregory's manual, and have found out what I need. But the even simpler answer for me is to take out the old non leaking axles from the diff with the whine n replace them into the one on the car, So I dont have to stuff around with bearing etc.

    Thanks for your help anyways
