    Default Throttle position switch problem

    Hi guys,

According to my auto trans specialist, i have a dodgy throttle position switch (or sensor if thats what you call it).

How much would it cost for a new one and is it something that i can do myself or does it need to be done by an auto lecky?

the trans mob referred me to an auto lecky and said they will probly charge a couple of hundred bucks for the job. Is that what its going to cost?

    Any help would be appreciated.

I did it myself. the TPS or throttle position sensor.

you have to pull your throttle body apart.

its this small little black thing the size of a match box. it kind of looks like a computer code thingy (sorry dont no the right termnology lol )it's easy to replace.

it cost me through a mate at REPCO $27 other wise there bout $37 or $42.

look it up on the net for a picture of it b4 u replace it then you no wat your looking for.

also how did you no that its dogy?

coz my engine managment light was comming on and the TPS is code 22. thats the only way i new it was stuffed.

Righto well sounds like i will be doing it myself. My dads a mechanic anyway so its not going to be a problem in terms on the technical side.
I just wasnt sure if it needed going over by an auto lecky or not.

The transmission mob said the sensor was buggered. While cruising on the highway the gearbox started dropping in and out of overdrive for no reason. I took it back to the auto trans guys cos they rebuilt it 11 months ago and it was still under warranty.
The bloke took it for a test drive and said it was the TPS. When he drove it and put his foot to the floor, it wouldnt kick back gears like it should and was having the overdrive problems. It only does the problem every now and then and he said the gearbox was fine.

I might do run a code check and see if i get a 22. Im not getting any dash lights though.

Hey mate, the TPS cost you 24 dollars TO 84 dollars, Plus we only charge 50 dollars an hour, it will take not even an hour to do the job......

mate, my VS has the same problem and it's annoying as hell... in my case i went to the electrician first, and he actually tested the sensor, which was working fine, so he said it was probably the wiring,

unsure what happened, i had my error codes cleared twice in the same day and it came back, sending the car into limp mode. i reset the ECU.. and she was good for 2months, then i went for a drive to dubbo from syd, and took some of the back roads.... and just before we got to dubbo... i reckon because of the roads being so bumpy, the sensitive wiring got moved around a bit... she's sweet now but every now and then this comes up.

the car's perfectly driveable, so i don't want to throw $500-700 at her for a new loom, especially since i'm planning to drop an LS1 into her sometime in the future...
