    Default What shocks for 5l?

    Gday fellas.

My VR is in need of some new shockers. Its lowered (not heaps though), has the live axle rear and 16" mags, and the shocks are all spongy so I think they are about due for some new ones.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I dotn really know much when it comes to this suspension bizzo. I was recommended to get KYB, but thought id ask you commodore nuts what you think is best.

I attached a piccy to give you guys n idea of the ride heaight.

    Thanks.

KYB would def be the go! $125 each for the fronts and $60 each for the rears. Either that or if you were specifically after comfort over handling maybe go Boge Shocks...

KYB's should be fine, they say they are better then munroe and there not that bad either. looks like it's only on lows so there are no issues there.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Would I need shortened shocks or are standard height shocks fine with lows?

Im really after a compromise between performance and comfort, probably leaning more towards performance though.

According to Bilstein KYB are made in the monroe factory, just the same as Pedders. I just went Bilstein but Koni are a great alternative as well.

hell, everything is made in china these days, i've seen MSD products with "made in china" stickers. i too would run bilstein if my intension was to take it to the track for some serious workouts but KYB is fine for the road. i find that KYB are cheaper then munroe. not sure where they come from, i thought they were japanese (yep, jsut checked the new ones in my garage) aren't munroe made in aussie?

ah, no... KYB are definately made in Japan, and are definately not made by Teneco (Monroe). Yes, Pedders are Monroe, but aren't actually the same shock as an off-the-shelf Monroe as they bought the designs off Monroe, then contracted it back to them to be made.

    Some useful trivia!

I got quotes for 2x KYB fronts, 2x KYB rears, alignment and fitting all for $850.

This seems to be the going rate, everywhere I called was roughly the same price. I got quoted ($720!) for just the fronts, not including fitting for koni adjustables, but really, for a road car that will at the most go to a skid pan day, the KYBs I think are fine.

I should be getting these fitted next week (I will be going to Revell Steering and suspension in Tuggeranong for those in the area).

Will I need shortened shocks for my car, or will I need standard shocks? and would this change the price?

I would've said that's a bit much. Yep you should go shortened rear shocks if you've got lowered springs of any level. Even including shipping to you a set of KYB's is only around the $400 mark, so that makes it some very expensive fitting and alignment costs... There's no more than 1.5-2 hours MAXIMUM in fitting, plus the alignment...

I paid around $500-550 for KYB AGX fronts and KYB shortened rears and then $200 for the 4 shocks, 4 springs fitted and a wheel alignment.

Well I got them fitted today.

I also got new polyurethane trut tops too, as the old ones were worn out as well.

Car handles better - doesnt wallow so much in the bends and feels alot more positive with direction changes too.

Yeah I thought it was a bit expensive, all the places around wanted pretty much teh same money. In the end it all came down to I could save $200 or so and obtain the parts myself and shop around for teh cheapest install, but I just wanted to get it done sooner rather than later, and the guy knew his stuff and did a good job, so in the end i wont complain I guess!!!

How much for polyurethane bushes for the panhard bar? The guy quoted me $90 for supply and install, but I said I would obtain and fit myself.
