hey mate, it seems like a common issue, mine does it too. if it realli annoys ya, try going from neutral and put it into reverse without lifting the handle, if it can be done.
there is a thread on here somewhere about it, but i cant remember wot is called. try a search

Works sometimes so fuse number 12 is going to be ok. There is a reverse switch that switches on when you are in reverse - probably just needs a clean or slight adjustment. I havent done it myself so Im not sure exactly where it is, but it will be near the gear selector somewhere there. Take the gear sorround off by removing the ash tray, hooking your finger in the hole and lifting it off. Check for a switch and any crap that may be getting in the way.

aren't the reverse lights run from the inhibitor switch? not sure if teh inhibitor switch is adjustable on VN-VS, but on VTonwards they're adjusted by loosening the bolts adn turning the switch slightly. haven't pulled my VR down that far to look, but you're going there so check if teh bolt holes on the switch are elongated. if they are, the switch can be adjusted with nothing more than a socket and a mate to watch the lights

The reverse/inhibiter switch on the VS is part of the selector mechanism on the autos but on the gearbox in manual versions.

    Default interesting

is the manual loom same as auto and maybe a jumper on the manual gearbox inhibitor connector if you have auto. could that connector jumper be your problem?

How does the gear shaft mounted sensor work in the autos? I havent seen one but from description it sounds suspiciously problematic.

I have a vr auto v8 and the reverse lights dont work. ive replaced most things I can think of. Still cant figure it out.
Can anyone please share some insight on this. PLEASE

Mate the reverse switch is on on the gearbox. Just go to the wreckers and get another one.

This applies to VS V6 autos but VR is prob the same:
Lift the cover around the Tbar - pull ashtray out and pull plastic cover up - at the front of the selector gate on the left hand side is a grey plastic switch with wires going to it - this is the inhibiter/reverse switch. Replace.

hi there, i had a problem where you put it into reverse and the reverse light comes on for about half a second, an autoelectrician fixed it up by pulling out some wires and giving them a scrub not sure what they were exactly but try it out hope that helps a bit

My fix for this was to put 2 washers under the reverse switch located by the gear sellecter. Take cover off an it's on the left side - undo both screws and put a washer or 2 under it. Screw back into place. Job only took 10 mins to fix.

Hako is right I'm wrong. lol.
The reverse switch is part of the inhibiter switch on the VR-VS Auto's, like Hako said. Although with the manual's its on the the gearbox I'm sure!
Are all auto's like this though? I thought there was a reverse switch on the auto I put in the VL not so long ago...

What I was getting at with the question "Are teh wiring looms the same in manual and auto" is that if there is a jumper wire in teh plug for teh gearbox sensor (not used in auto) then the problem might just be the jumper plug has a broken or dirty connection. Does anyone know if the looms are the same?
