auto shifter button

Hey everyone so i got a 2nd hand auto gear box put in a little while ago and since then the button on my gear shifter is constantly up. As in to change from P to D or anything to anything i dont need to pull it up first.

Should I get this fixed or does it not matter? Is it doing any harm in being constantly up? Any help would be great...

its more of a precaution thing to make sure you dont accidentally throw it into neutral, reverse or 1st while youre doing 100km/h or something
